You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“A worker peed here in the same grassy lawn shared with graves while another worker kept watch, then helped carry my grandpa's casket :/ Not that far a walk from the building that probably had bathrooms. May the lord and my grandpa forgive my inaction. I didn't realize the pisser would help carry grandpa to his final resting place till it was too late, without gloves or hand sanitizer either. Maybe the worker felt pressured to be on time to assist with our burial but it would have been better to be late or "hand" the task off to a colleague, instead of that colleague keeping (apparently not good enough) watch.”

“I have had to wait to write this review so that I could at least try to come to terms with the lack of respect that this place of business treated myself and my loved one with. I was unaware that the funeral home that I chose to care for the arrangements of my deceased husband would not cremate on site and instead be utilizing your services. I had specific requests that had been communicated to the chosen funeral home. I was reassured by the funeral director that these requests were passed along when my husband's body was released to Irvington Memorial cremation Services. I also learned that it was an owner who cremated my husband but neglected to completely read the paperwork and only glanced at it before performing the cremation. When I called Irvington and expressed my displeasure, I was directed to speak to a man named Jameson. Jameson offered to send me the video of my husband's cremation. I REPEATEDLY said NO!!!!!!! I asked for them to review the video and screen shot a specific item that would prove to me that they in fact did cremate my husband since I had reason to be concerned that they did not properly do their job. 4 days later, I was sent the entire video of my husbands cremation from beginning to end!!!!!! I have never been so disgusted in my entire life! Why would a professional business do something like this after the grieving costumer SPECIFICALLY AND REPEATEDLY told them that I DID NOT WANT TO SEE ANY OF THIS!!!!!! I pray that this review prevents something like this from ever happening again. I will never be able to remove the vision of my husband John in that box as he was about to be inserted into an oven.”

“So disappointed since my mom being burried her flowers and decors always got stolen. So sad people disrespect our love ones graves.. However for a long time the cemetary didnt accept fake flowers so the cemetary looks so plain.. Just recently i had my mother all pretty up ..and everything gone I understand the weather elements.i had ask if the maintenance go over headstone or around? As it really maintain which is good but please dont throw away our loved ones flowers etc because its in your way to cut and clean so obviously they have it all clean and grounds are plain no flowers! ..you go by other cemetary all grounds are always fill with pretty flowers so beautiful.. Years ago my mom headstone was bend damage from there equipment when preparing a burial next to her..and didnt even let us know was damaged.. I called them several times all they say is they have signs out they not responsible for theft..they sure keep the grounds grass cut and plain someone cant be stealing everyone decors and flowers? Think maintenance lazy to go around headstones..so sad”
