You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot say enough good things about the service and experience my family and I had at Becker Funeral Home. When my Mother died, we were overwhelmed with how to plan services. Ron immediately stepped in and helped us make connections with the Church and cemetery. He also coordinated the transportation of my Mom from the hospital to her final resting place after the funeral. The wake and funeral service was executed flawlessly. Mom was so well taken care of and all the attributes of the service from the flowers to the memory cards and online memorial were so beautifully done, we are forever grateful. We truly appreciate the respect, kindness and empathy shown to us during our time of need and would highly recommend them to others. Thank you again.”

“I will start by saying that when my dad died two weeks ago we came home from the hospital heart broken and feeling lost. The hospital had given us a list of funeral homes to choose from. That night me and my sisters wanted to choose a place because we wanted our dad out of the morgue. I found Becker and was immediately pulled in by their website, little did we know that Becker would end up being the best decision we ever made. That night Rob(funeral director) answered my call and immediately answered my questions. I then called the hospital the next day and Rob called me to let me know they picked up my dad and set a appt for that Monday. The meeting was stress free and he took his time explaining everything to us. We received important papers of things to consider like who we need to contact and about benefits. They sent us a link to upload the photos that would be displayed during the viewing. Today I had to say a final goodbye to my dad and Becker funeral home really made the day beautiful. The staff is caring and really know how to cater to the families. I am saddened that we were in this situation but at least it brought us some peace and thank you for making this easier and we are able to mourn without the stress.”

“It has been 15 months since my children lost their father and he was brought to your funeral home. I called you repeatedly in the beginning, as did many of them, and your response to them was uncaring and frankly cruel. He had been married only 11 weeks at the time of his death and the family had no communication with this individual, and you also refused to communicate with his heirs as far as to their wish to receive his remains. To this day they have had no closure in terms of the cremation and where his remains are and whether or not you are in possession of them. They were unable to have a funeral or memorial for their father, and this includes his siblings and extended family as well. Your only response was that you were following the rules of the state of Florida but you do have an ethical duty to the immediate family which would be the children of the deceased to provide this information to his direct heirs. And you did not. While you may have good reviews they are highly biased in my opinion since these families more than likely had funerals, not a cremation, and certainly not under the circumstances my children have had to go through. I would appreciate an answer as to who has his remains or if they were left in your possession and why they were not given to his children as an ethical responsibility you hold.”
