“Planning my uncle’s memorial service in Atlanta while navigating an unfamiliar city and managing his home was no small task, but the team at Willie Watkins Funeral Home made the experience far less overwhelming. My mother, his sister, worked closely with Precious Sirmans, our funeral director, who was knowledgeable, thorough, and compassionate. She took her time to explain every detail, never rushing our meetings, and stayed with us until we were completely satisfied. While this occasionally meant a delay in meeting with her, we appreciated her patience and commitment to each family she served. The team was also very responsive, which made the planning process much easier despite the distance and time constraints. We were grateful to meet Mr. Willie Watkins, whose professionalism and warmth are reflected throughout his staff. The funeral home itself is beautifully appointed and creates a peaceful, comforting environment for families. It was especially meaningful that my uncle received his military honors as part of the service—something very important to my mother—and we deeply appreciated Ms. Sirmans for arranging that. Although the slideshow did not turn out exactly as we had envisioned, everything else—from the planning to the service to the repast—came together seamlessly. “Losing my daddy, Alonzo Ellis Smith, on May 19, 2025, was one of the hardest moments of my life. But Kamira and the care team at Willie Watkins Funeral Home made it possible for me to see my daddy before they embalmed him—and that meant the world to me. I will forever be grateful for that moment. Kamira, our funeral director, treated me like a sister and made sure my daddy received the absolute best. She gave us the largest viewing room they had and granted every request I made without hesitation. She even made sure my daughter’s tribute video played at just the right moment during the service—it was perfect. Kamira handled both me and my aunt separately with so much grace and patience. She carried our grief with us and made sure we felt supported every step of the way. I’ll always be thankful for her heart. Justin—the gentleman who prepared my daddy—had him looking so fly and handsome that women who saw him in the casket wanted to date him! He was kind, respectful, and honored every request I had, including removing and replacing my daddy’s hat just how I wanted. He cleaned up my daddy’s nails—something I’d been wanting for years—and smoothed out his lips like never before. He even put Dior cologne on my daddy for me. My daddy was always about looking good and coordinating, and I know he would’ve been so impressed. Justin is known for the amazing work he does, and now I truly understand why. I don’t have everyone’s name, but every single person in the Google review photos carried this burden with me. The ladies at the front desk were wonderful. One had locs—we bonded, and she kept me organized with her calm, sweet spirit and warm smile. Another lady with a beautiful headwrap and flawless makeup always gave the sweetest compliments and was so helpful and uplifting. All the gentlemen were just that—gentlemen. They helped me in and out of cars, held umbrellas, walked beside me offering their arms, opened doors, and helped me up and down stairs. That kind of care stays with you forever. Mr. Willie Watkins himself allowed me to ride in the hearse with my daddy to Lincoln Cemetery. Mr. Tony, who was the driver, taught me so much about the business during our short ride. He even let me control the sirens! I had no idea you had to keep switching them back and forth like a light switch—it was so cool! I’m forever grateful for that experience. The celebration of life started on time and ended on time—they do not play! The pastor preached a powerful, beautiful sermon. And let me just say… the good-looking gentlemen on staff had the ladies whispering and watching! 🤭 Then the man who sang at my daddy’s celebration—he gave me full body chills! That man can sang just how I like it—soulful, strong, and spirit-filled. The whole atmosphere—from outside to inside—was top tier. It didn’t feel like a funeral home; it felt like home. It was well-lit, peaceful, smelled amazing with candles burning, had a lovely bird display, and that huge mirror was the star of the show. The space was comforting and welcoming. The staff felt like family—joyful, respectful, and so in sync with each other. They kept us laughing and brought a lightness to a heavy day. I can’t forget the lady who took my payment for the viewing. She sat with me to watch a video about my daddy and let me tell her all about how amazing he was. That touched me deeply. My family and friends were so impressed by everything that they’re still calling to talk about their experience with the staff. Willie Watkins Funeral Home is clean, organized, professional, and filled with people who truly care. My daughter Majesty, who’s an introvert and hard to please, was so moved by her experience she said she wants to work there one day.
