You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Our son passed away beginning of November. He was a larger size gentleman. But he was my baby. Lacey was kind and professional yet very caring. We asked for a private viewing before cremation and the prepared him so we could view him. The place is old but they did their best to make us comfortable . We certainly appreciate every one we dealt with and it was affordable. Thank you.”

“My significant others father had passed away 3 1/2 years ago. We thought it was going to be a great place to have his viewing and have the cremation done, because this is the same place my mom was cremated. Anyway, my significant other goes over there with his mom and brother to talk about the arrangements and make the payment. He chose the plan with a full service which included the viewing, flowers, prayer cards, guest sign in book, cremation, urn with mini keepsake urns ect. After he made a payment they had given him a receipt. A couple of days later he goes back to pay the rest of the amount owed. He also wanted to add 3 necklaces with his dads fingerprint which had cost $800 and this whole time from beginning to end he was speaking to Samuel Moya. He had written it down on back of a paper he had in front of him which looked like a receipt. He wrote the type of necklaces my partner was requesting and the amount which was three: one for his sister, one for his brother and one for himself. They gave Samuel the $800 in cash. Now they had thought he had given them the receipt with the info he was writing down on the back. He told them it would be 8 weeks to receive the necklaces. Those 8 weeks go by and my partner calls them to see if they were ready to be picked up and they weren't. So some months go by and still not ready. ALMOST A YEAR and they tell him they still didnt have them and they were going to order them. Like I understand how busy they were with it being around Covid time. But after so many phone calls about the necklaces and still didnt care to place the order right after getting off the phone. What happened to the $800?! Who knows, it might have just went straight into someones pocket because still no $800 necklaces. Please make sure you get a receipt for every transaction from these people because you too could be out of A LOT of money. Disgraceful”

“I highly recommend Director's Choice. We used their cremation service and had a private viewing. They worked with us regarding our wishes (including religious ones), our tight timeline, and did it all with efficiency and compassion. The private viewing and the urn pickup were done in a beautiful and reverent fashion. There was a mistake on the urn, and they quickly redid it correctly without being asked. Jessica gave us concierge service and always talked to us herself over the phone. We also appreciated the online access to services and payment. If I could, I'd give them six stars.”
