You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“110% very highly recommend. The other funeral homes in the area were very corporate and tried to up-sell items not caring about our deceased. Provident was the complete opposite. We felt after our interactions that they were all part of the family. They were also significantly cheaper but the service was very high end. We were so impressed that we are working on having them do our next relative who is on hospice. Again none of us can speak the appropriate words of praise, but just say thanks.”

“James and everyone at Provident have been so kind and sensitive throughout the process of saying goodbye to my son. We could not have asked for more knowledgeable or helpful people to help us through this. We are forever grateful.”

“Triston and Missy went above and beyond with exceptional service from beginning to end. We are so happy and highly recommend their services! We recently lost our mom a couple of days ago and mom’s wish was to be transported to the Philippines to be with her mother and sister who are still alive. It was painful how our mom’s mother and sister couldn’t make it to Utah to say goodbye to mom due to medical reasons that did not allow for them to travel so we were wanting to bring mom as quickly as possible to the Philippines for them to also have closure. When mom was in hospice care, Triston was already making sure we had all the paperwork ready and discussed pricing with us (which was very reasonable) so everything could be expedited since we were on a time crunch. Triston was even working overtime and doing research for us as late as 9:30pm at night. Once mom passed and was transported to Provident funeral home from the hospital, I met with Missy right after leaving the hospital and submitted all the paperwork Triston requested the day before. We were able to pay that same day and also scheduled for cremation and viewing the very next day. The death certificate needed to be signed by the state register before cremation and Triston was on top of things that he made sure it was signed once the office opened at 8am the next morning and a couple of hours later at 10am we were able to have the viewing and the cremation. We were also ready to pick up the death certificate and duplicates that same afternoon. The very next day, mom’s ashes were ready for pick-up and they even wrapped the basic box (accepted by TSA for flights) that contained mom’s ashes with a beautiful red velvet bag. Triston mailed all the paperwork by express/overnight shipping to the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco to process a letter that gives us permission to enter Philippines with mom’s ashes. We were able to pay for express shipping easily by phone and were so satisfied how everything ran quick and smoothly. Triston and Missy treated our family with so much love and was so quick to respond to our calls and text messages, knowing the urgency of how fast we needed things done. Amazing team and we can’t thank you enough for being there when we needed them most! Because of Triston and Missy, everything was processed smoothly and efficiently that we were able to pick up mom’s ashes on the second day since her passing! In the time of mourning and grieving, they made the process so much easier for us and we can’t thank you enough! We love them so much that we hope every family who lost a loved one could be directed to them because they are God-sent in our most time of need. We don’t know how we could have done it without them!”
