You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“You asked me to send you the list of my grievances to see how we can come to an agreement. You ignored me for over a week and your response was telling me that you would have a board meeting at the end of the month and send a check depending on what you guys seemed fit. A board meeting was not needed when you told me that either my sister Zelle you or apple the deposit since you didn’t get the promissory note from victims of crime or you would be cancelling our fathers services. We had to Zelle you but you want me to wait for a check. Not even to mention you had me meet you in a LIQUOR STORE parking lot to give you my father’s final outfit. My grievances are as follows: 1. You charged 1,050 for embalming when prices usually range from 500-1000. 2. You charged 3500 for basic services and usual cost are 1000-2700. 3. You charged 600 for dressing and casket ing which usually cost between 100-400. 4. You charged 950 for equipment and staff. When we had one person help which was the hearse driver and she had no idea that she would have to help us. 5. You charged us 850 for the first viewing that lasted 15 minutes and you were LATE to which gave us less time. 6. You charged 800 for a sprinter that we never received 8. You charged 250 for a utility vehicle which you say was the hearse then why were we charged but also charged 950 for the funeral coach and driver which means we were double charged for that. 9. You charged 1500 for a church that we never got to see and a pastor that we didn’t get to speak with the day before the funeral. 10. We were completely overcharged on so many items. 11. On the day of the final viewing you didn’t even let us know what time our appointment was until 3 hours prior knowing that we living 2 hours away. And then when we were running late because of the short notice you told us if we didn’t make it by a certain time that we would just have to deal with a photo for verification. 12. My father was LATE TO HIS OWN FUNERAL! 13. The pastor and deacon and the pastors son had to help bring my father into the church because you never informed me that the pall bearers needed to be present early to help. Even though you told Mary that you did tell me. 14. On the day of the service I called you 6 times including texted to figure out where my father was because he was late. You never responded. I didn’t hear from you until multiple days after his service. 15. There were MULTIPLE times that you were supposed to send documentation that you did not and I have to constantly contact you just to receive any documents or updates. 16. Your communication with me was terrible so many times where we were ignored and I had to contact you multiple times just for you to respond. 17. You are literally being given a check for 12 thousand dollars plus the 500 we paid for mediocre customer service and services that we never even received. I trusted you with my father because of a personal recommendation. I never questioned the prices even though they were inflated because I trusted ****’s judgement. But I feel used, taken advantage of and like my father was disrespected”

“I would like to start off by saying thank you to the polk family, for everything they did. My wife had been searching every were for a Economic funeral and one that she felt was the right fit for us. She did find one bt she didn’t felt like it wad the right one. My wife called this funeral home and spoke to Jonathan and he just made her feel like everything would be just find. We went to have a meeting with jonathan and we felt as if we were family. Everything went great from planning everything to the day. Idalia was the one there for our service to help us with everything, she was like a family member. Idalia made sure everything rained smooth and even gave words of courage to my wife when she was in tears. They also gifted us with a beautiful blanket with our loved ones photographs. Overall I would recommend them to anyone, pricing is great, and there amazing service they provided. Thank you polk funeral home.”
