You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The place is gorgeous, and the funeral director carries himself with the utmost elegance. However, they are overpriced. I’ll only recommend this place, if you know you’ll have 50 or more guests attending the service. If not, then the packages they provided (specifically to print out announcement cards and etc.) is excessive. And in this age of technology., they should have a cheaper option that offers solely the electronic version of announcements cards. And also provide an economical package for funerals that will have less than 40 people attending. I have about 100 physical copies of announcements cards that will collect dust. It was more convenient, to send electronic version to my family in which I mainly did anyway, including the one I created for free cause it was ready til Monday and not on Friday prior. I also have some other kind of bendy card that appears no one received but me. Why spend all this money for? I selected a $6600 package and things still went over 10k. Hit over 13k to be exact. In addition, the sign in book for the guests did not indicate to include their addresses.’ Therefore I have to put in additional work now to figure out everyone’s address so I can get rid of these thank you cards that they provided me. Atleast put my money into actual use. Plus, my guests who attended through the live streaming reported that the service was on mute! So no one was able to listen to what was being said 💔😢 All these little things I didn’t think to worry about, means a WHOLE lot. To spend over 13K when I could’ve paid significantly less elsewhere… I expected much more perfection from this establishment. My dad received an aesthetically beautiful ceremony, he did. but I am left with ill feelings in regards of basic things. 7/20/25 _______________________________________________ I’m appalled to have Now noticed a similar complaint about the muted live streaming of another Client two years ago! I made a similar complaint about the live streaming three months ago! So he is likely aware of this, someone had to tell him about this issue and he is pretending This never happened before! Unacceptable Plus, he had offered to give me a copy of the live streaming if my sisters couldn’t make it to the funeral. Thankfully, they did. They drove overnight from Florida to Philadelphia to attend their father’s funeral (Flight canceled due to extreme weather conditions at the time). But even though they made it, he led me to believe he had the capability of providing me a copy of my father’s funeral. He even pretended he don’t recall and made it seem like I misheard him. I sent him an email to follow up about sending me a copy of this live stream and he never responded to the email, which is uncharacteristic of him when I was potentially a paying customer. In addition, I want to expose how he actually duped me into using his services. I called him to get a quote and I told him my father had already passed about three days ago and he is still in the hospital. Granted it was urgent at that point to get him embalmed. But still, I was just calling around to get quotes. He then said a bunch of things and then asked me a question that made me said yes…I didn’t realize I gave him verbal permission OVER THE PHONE(hedocument it) 4him to go get my father out the hospital! The next day I went to visit the funeral home to consider the packages, to my surprise my father was there! Initially, I was highly upset because I actually didnt want that yet.I wanted consider other options. But this is a new experience for me and I didn’t know that hospitals do not preserve our dead loved ones. So I did became grateful, for that learning experience. But looking back I still think that was deceitful. Especially now seeing how overpriced, overrated this funeral home is If need be that I use the additional burial space that’s above where my father is laying rest at. Best believe I will hire a different funeral home to assist with that ceremony. I feel so duped and angry each time. I recall my experience with Christopher Kent. 11/26/25”
