You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Written by Lee von Preussen 2 March, 2026 Today was the day my Mother was placed with my Father at the Columbarium at the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery. It was a very hard day for me because it was a long and difficult process. My Mother passed away on January the 13th at home after being bedridden for over one year. The day of her passing someone from Bermudez came and took her into their custody for cremation. Dealing with Bermudez was no easy task. It was difficult to reach people like Tiffany Work or Ms. Singh. And receiving sometimes took several days. Ordering the urn was difficult and no guidance from anyone made it difficult to decide what would be a good material non corrosive that will last forever. I also wanted a finger print from my Mother so I could have had a pendant made by Legacy. That was not done. This Mortuary also didn't discuss things like a preacher, etc who would have spoken at the service. None of these services were offered or provided. I also was shocked that they just dropped off the urn and didn't even have the decency or common courtesy to be there during my Mothers internment. Bermudez Cremations and Funeral Homes is now owned by a corporation called Dignity. They also run and operate Mission Mortuary. It became confusing which company I was dealjng with either Mission Mortuary or Bermudez. I was later informed they are the same. Bermudez made dealing with my Mother's passing more difficult and made my grieving very painful. They asked me several times to write a positive review. But there was nothing positive about this experience dealing with this funeral home. I will never recommend Mission Mortuary or Bermudez Funeral Homes to anyone.”

“This would be our 3rd time at Mission Mortuary or Bermudez Family Cremation and Funerals. We had a really great experience with the staff. We worked with Laura Singh primarily but everyone we chatted with was amazing. They were all very compassionate. Cost wise, we went with a cremation per my husband’s preference and that package seemed reasonable to me. Communication wise it did feel like things were taken care of and heard without having to check in as much as I did. We talked in person, on the phone and through email and it was prompt and concise. On the day of the memorial they took care of any last minute things and guided us through when necessary and answered questions promptly and graciously. My family and I have had a bit of experience with deaths in the last 10 years so we were familiar with how things go.”

“Emma took such good care of us through this difficult process and Julie was always ready to have our back as well. The memorial went beautifully and everybody had a chance to share their memories and enjoy some fellowship at the reception afterwards. I don't know how difficult it must be to keep track of all these things, but they did it. You will always have my gratitude. --Shane M. Dallmann”
