You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Boule Funeral Home handled the sudden death of our son this past week. It was so stressful. We made appointments to see Tom and still had time wait 20 minutes for him to get downstairs. Then there was the obituary mess. We had wanted to add 2 more people to it and they took out all of the immediate family and just had the 2 additions. He kept telling us he would fix it. Four days later the new one was there. It was a jumbled mess. His father was listed after niece & nephew. You should not have to stress out over that. We had so much stress as it was without all the craziness. They are supposed to elevate some stress not add to it.”

“I would give Boule's 10 stars, if I could. This will be another stellar review of the amazing skill and dedication of Tom Wilkinson and his staff. When my mom died last month, we placed ourselves in the caring, compassionate hands of Tom. He and his wonderful assistant Wendy took care of every detail of my mom's arrangements. We got everything we wished for and gave my mother the most perfect send off imaginable. It's like Tom and Wendy could read our minds. The experience was so positive and powerful, we felt like we were part of a special family. I truly can't say enough about this incredible group and recommend them very, very highly. Tom--thank you for everything.”

“This past week our mom passed. The Boule Funeral Home was very caring and compassionate. Knowing my mom didn't have insurance, Tom worked with us, so that we could give my mom the arrangements they she truly wanted.I would recommend Boule Funeral Home.
