You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My mother was given an immediate burial through this company and they provided the service needed, so I am still giving 3 stars. However there are some issues I had that I feel I need to share with others. Even though it is called an immediate burial, which implies expedience, do not expect your loved one to be laid to rest quickly. It took 20 days for my mother to be buried after her passing; this was for a basic burial with no funeral services, no embalming, no viewing, no graveside service, etc. I was told that immediate burials have to be worked around the schedule of other services, implying that they are of lower priority than traditional services/burials. So, if they are busy, your loved one has to wait. This is understandable, but that was never made clear on their website. Perhaps they should change the name from immediate burial to something else? Also, they still haven't posted an obituary for her, 20 days after her passing. I have had family asking to see the obituary, and I have to explain to them that she doesn't have one yet. It embarrassing for me, especially since I already couldn't afford to pay for her to have a full traditional funeral service. I would not get updates from them. They never called me to tell me when they had scheduled her burial, and they did not call me the day she was buried to let me know I could go visit her. You can't directly contact the funeral director, only a person whose job is to answer the phone. They will take your message, and have the director call you back at their convenience. In multiple instances I did not get a call back. They also never replied to my emails. I feel like keeping the family updated about the status of their loved one should be important, especially if things are delayed and taking longer than usual. In fact, I probably wouldnt have even written this review if they had let me know what was going on with my mother. Overall, I was not happy with my experience with this company. I did not feel valued as a customer, or that my mother was a priority to them. Instead, I felt stressed out and embarrassed by how transactional amd uncaring the whole experience felt. I understand that the prices of burials are expensive and this may be the only option available for those of us with limited means. However, I would not recommend using this company if possible.”

“My husband died 4 months ago. To start with they were compassionate and nice and it was affordable I dealt with Angela. I did the direct cremation. After they were paid I had to call and see after a month of not hearing anything. You only ever talk to an answer service and they call you back on their terms. I was told he was cremated and told me I would get his ashes sent out the next day after I called. Another week later that did happen. Now 4 months later I get an email asking if all the information is correct for the death certificate. All this should not take this long. This place has no compassion for our feelings and our love ones. I used them because money is tight but I do not recommend them at all. Save yourself heartache and go with a funeral home that cares. If they treat us living this bad can you just imagine how they treat our ones that cannot speak any longer.”

“I am submitting this complaint because the way Affordable Burial & Cremation Service handled my loved one’s remains caused my family unnecessary pain during one of the hardest moments of our lives. Despite leaving message after message, no one ever called me back. Weeks went by with no information, and it ultimately took over a month to receive the ashes. During that time, they told me they did not have the correct permit and were having issues getting it, leaving me confused, scared, and completely in the dark about what was happening to someone so precious to us. They also promised a letter required for international travel, something we needed urgently, and we never received it. That broken promise added even more stress to an already overwhelming situation. After twice a day daily call we were finally told we could pick up the ashes. We drove three hours, grieving and exhausted, only to discover they were two hours late. We had to sit and wait until they decided to open at 3 p.m. The lack of respect for our time, our grief, and our loved one was heartbreaking. This entire experience felt careless and dismissive at a time when we needed compassion and professionalism the most. No family should ever have to go through what we did. No one should be treated this way when they are their most vulnerable I hope other grieving families are not met with this same disregard and emotional distress.”
