You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“After losing my mom unexpectedly, D’Esopo Funeral Chapel was incredibly organized and supportive during this difficult time. I had no idea where to begin, and the team at D’Esopo gently walked me through all details so that my family and I were able to grieve and honor my mom at the same time. I cannot recommend this team enough. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making my mom‘s services just perfect, and providing so much support during this time.”

“I wanted to take a moment to thank you for guiding me through the pre-need funeral planning process. What I expected to be a difficult and uncomfortable task turned into something calm, clear, and even reassuring because of your professionalism and patience. You explained every option in a way that was easy to understand, never rushed my decisions, and made sure I felt confident about the choices I was making. That level of care made a meaningful difference. Knowing that these arrangements are now in place gives me real peace of mind, and I’m grateful for the respect and dignity you brought to every conversation. Thank you for treating this process not just as paperwork, but as something personal and important. I truly appreciate your guidance and kindness. Thank you, AJ Albuquerque. You're a pro.”

“My experience with D’ Esopo was exceptional. They exceeded my expectations on every level, taking care of so many details. The sound system that enabled us to load my husband’s favorite music was top notch. I was able to give them a list of songs and they took care of the rest. The TV screen displaying photos was very large and placed in a location where it was visible from multiple view points. The overall presentation of the viewing room was tasteful and well appointed. The framed photos and tripod photo displays were placed beautifully in a location beneath the TV screen. To my surprise they also took photos of all the flower arrangements that included notes to indicate who sent them. The fireplace that was located in the foyer gave off a most pleasant, comfortable feeling. In a nutshell D’Esopo was a beautiful, tastefully decorated funeral home run by a very competent kind staff that took care of all our needs.”
