You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Let me preface this with the fact that I never leave negative reviews. If I could give ZERO STARS to this establishment I would. My uncle passed away today and is still laying in the spot he passed away in as we speak. My mom contacted this funeral home 7 hours ago for transportation of our loved one's body. Beck's has given us multiple excuses, told us multiple different timeframes, blamed my mom (my uncle's caretaker) for not informing them to head that way, told us they would be here within 10 minutes (never came), and now they will not answer any of the numbers they have given to us and one of their phones for a direct contact has even been turned off. We are now trying to find a different funeral home for pick up because Beck's isn't responding and hasn't come. What is going on???!? This is actually cruel, unacceptable, and extremely uncaring given that my uncle has been dead 12 hours now and my mom is grieving and exhausted and has been waiting all day for his body to be recieved, and all we have gotten is lies and inconsideration for our loved one from this home. It is a completely clear sunny day so no inclement weather to keep them from coming in a timely manner. If this is how they treat their customers for pick up, I don't want to think about how they may treat loved ones remains behind closed doors. Completely unacceptable and I am disgusted. I would not, and will not ever recommend this funeral home. Update: a lady named Colleen just called my mom back and left a message. She said they were working on a transportation team because they had others "stacked in front of you" AND LAUGHED. She said their estimated time of arrival would now be 3 hours from now in between 10 - 10:30 pm. That is 10 hours from when we called and they have lied multiple times about ETA'S and why they haven't shown up or picked up. Their treatment of our family has been absolutely unacceptable and atrocious. Update #2: we called a different funeral home who arrived in an hour. Communicated with us the entire time. Brought us flowers and were kind and empathetic that we just had lost a loved one. They treated our loved one's body with care and respect. The exact opposite of Beck's, and how a funeral home should handle such situations. I still cannot believe how they treated my family in our moment of grief and need. What a disrespectful company.”

“I am terribly disappointed in Beck's lack of professionalism, courtesy, communication, and empathy during a family's time of need. We had a resident pass at our senior living community and the family had Beck's listed as the provider of choice. After the initial intake with their call center, Beck's did not reach out to our community indicating that dispatch scheduled a driver nor did we receive a follow up call regarding their ETA as promised. 3 hours later, after still no word from Beck's, the family was told by Beck's staff they "may get an update in the next few hours". After 5 hours, we tried again attempted to receive an update with no luck. After 6 hours, I placed another call to Beck's asking for an update and still no apology, no update, and no one had a clue what was happening. I was promised a call from the Director "immediately". After 7 hours, the family terminated the service and, thankfully, another funeral home service stepped in afterhours to save the day. In following up the next day, I spoke with Amanda (a Director at Becks); at no point did she offer an apology or take accountability for the actions of her team. She simply thanked me for the call and seemed to have zero interest or concern about what this family was going through, or their shock about this lack of service, or the cavalier attitude of the staff when facing such a perilous situation. I can't, in good faith, recommend this service following this experience.”

“My dad recently past away. Beck's was so kind and patient with us. They answered and explained every details to us. Everyone from sales to transport took their time with us and were very respectful. Pricing wise were reasonable and affordable. We highly recommend them.”
