You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I can’t recommend this place for caring of a loved one. Their only role was to receive my mothers body from the nearby coroner, transport her to the nearby university (where she donated her body for science) and mail me (same city) with the requested death certificates. No funeral, no body services, just transportation and documentation. Eric is the person supposedly “helping” me and he has no follow through skills, poor communication skills, and after getting their several thousand dollar fee, simply stopped responding to my follow ups about the death certificates.”

“The staff at Parker Funeral Home were amazing. We worked with Eric Ray primarily. The service we received was kind, thoughtful and compassionate. They went above and beyond in handling all the details following the passing of our son. In the sad event that their services are required, we highly recommend. Thank you so much for everything, Eric and Parker Funeral Home, from the bottom of our hearts.”

“I’m not sure if they do this on purpose in hopes to get more clients or what. But once a week I have to drive down Parkglenn to get to a client - and they have cars parked on both sides of the very small road which clearly obstruct the views of cars exiting their parking lot. The cars pull out frequently into oncoming traffic - maybe they are poor drivers…but from my perspective their line of sight is clearly obstructed by all the vehicles parked there (which appear to never move and just sit there parked permanently). I am not looking to become a client of your funeral home because someone pulls out into traffic and kills me. Fix your parking arrangement or ask the owners of those vehicles to move off the street.”
