You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I rarely post ratings or comments but this one is one that I cannot ignore. Whether this relates to the Keehn-Griffin company as a whole, it for sure is relevant to their branch in Brighton, MI. I just don't know where to begin. We are in the middle of my mother's funeral so you can believe this is a first hand account. First, they may claim their facility is wheelchair accessible but, past the ramp into the building, it's not. The viewing is being held on the first floor of the two story facility. The upstairs was offered to the family for privacy but there is no way for our father in a wheelchair to get upstairs - no lift, no elevator, no assist, nothing. There are also inch high runners between rooms that the chair cannot traverse. We have to literally lift our father over them every time. While the handicapped bathroom is much preferred (why Keehn-Griffin received their one star) you have to travel through several other rooms without a direct route to get there. What makes it even more difficult is when the company has a second family there planning their own arrangements. How awkward do you think it was every time we needed to take our father through the room they were in?? The furniture arrangements aren't even wheelchair accessible so we needed to ask this family to all stand to push their chairs in just for our father to pass, thus interrupting their intimate planning. WHO DOES THAT?! Second, for the video tribute they created for our mother, we were limited to only 200 photos. What? Are we paying by the data byte now?? How can you ask a family to limit a LIFETIME of captured moments into only 200 pictures?! We could have walked in with a flash drive full of moments, plugged it into a TV or monitor, and it would have been better. Hell, the digital picture frame we brought had more pictures than the tribute!! Lastly, and this is the greatest of them all, one of the Keehn-Griffin employees kept changing what we provided for our mother's obituary!! What sort of company employee thinks they know what's best for ANYONE'S ANYTHING?!? You are a service industry providing for families at their most desperate hour and YOU know what's best for them?! It's despicable! You should be catering to their every need, wish, and desire - not inserting your own influence into THEIR plans!! I cannot remember how many phone calls and complaints we made as we watched the company's online obituary post went back and forth. Someone was literally online and changing it in real-time!! What sort of company employs someone like that?? Again, whether this is relevant towards the whole of the Keehn-Griffin company it is for sure an accurate description of their Brighton, MI branch. My suggestion? If you are planning a funeral with Keehn-Griffin, be sure to clearly vet the branch you choose. Though that says nothing about the employees at their other branches....”

“I know the building is old but the two women working my cousins son’s funeral on Aug 30, 2025 were the absolute best! Love you ladies so much!”

“Absolutely perfect!! After doing some searching for a local jeweler, I decided to visit Keehn’s for a custom ring I have been wanting for several years now. Wow! Ken took my ideas and brought them to life. Keehn’s worked with me through the entire process and made suggestions to ensure the ring turned out the way it should. It was an absolute pleasure of a journey with a family owned business. Thank you again Ken and Keehn’s Jewelry!”
