You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Here is an updated post from my previous post. shout out to Stephanie Malott she is the general manager of Highland Park Cemetery and she had called me back on June 27 regarding my complaint that I had with the way my parents plot and the plot above theirs looked. She jumped right on it and she got the Dirt filled in and she is working on the chip in the headstone and getting that repaired. I am very much appreciative That she did this for me. She said she would send me pictures the next day (today )June 28th that it was completed and she kept her word. I’m very so appreciative!! Thank you so very much Stephanie. They did a nice job raising the headstone and filling in the dirt around it on my parents as well as the person above them.”

“I’m very dissatisfied with the outcome of my Dads headstone! It’s been 3 years since my Dad passed. Due to Covid and the process of ordering his headstone (on the company behalf not mine) it was pushed back with dates on ordering that specific colored stone. My Dad headstone has been placed a year in a half now. I was finally able to build the courage and strength to travel 9 hrs to visit my Dad just to see this disappointment. It’s very obvious how crooked his headstone is. I spoke with Mike before I left to travel back home about how important it is to get his headstone corrected! He gave me a yellow copy of a “service request” and stated he will be in contact with me. I haven’t heard anything not a call or email! I usually work with David which he wasn’t available at the time but I did look forward to a follow up call or something! I got nothing! After calling TODAY the lady I was speaking with said she don’t see a service request for my Dads headstone! It Is a little frustrating and disappointing and most of heartbreaking when you have already been through enough with ordering his head stone AND TO GET THERE TO SEE THIS. My Dad asked me before his passing 😪 to make sure I take care his grave, and I promised him I would AND I WILL! Communication is key! Just very sad about this and very disappointed! But I will stay on it! It will get fixed!!!”

“I found Meghan at Highland Park Cemetery to be knowledgeable, compassionate and patient as she went through the steps to complete my pre-arrangement planning. My parents had also pre-arranged at Highland Park and I've been very satisfied with their services.”
