You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot give enough praise for the professionalism, dignity to our Mother, and overall support that we have had by Michelle, Ardin, and Leo with the loss and services of our Mother. We had a beautiful service in the Columbarium with a cremation after. I wish I could give them 100000 stars 🌟🌟🌟 We are so thankful for them and their team. (MINUS THE OLD GM OF WHICH I'VE BEEN ASSURED IS GONE NOW! HE SHOULDN'T EVEN STILL WORK FOR SC&F!) Dorsy and the other female funeral director should have been FIRED for how they handled my mother's cremains!”

“Had an amazing experience. They took such loving care, time, and patience with my mom’s remains and always kept our family informed. I would recommend them without hesitation. Miss Miracle is the best, and the entire staff is the epitome of sincerity, caring, love, and attentiveness. Thank you all for taking care of my mom from preparation to shipping. I am forever grateful.”

“I called Southern Cremations & Funerals in Marietta, GA and spoke with Arden, requesting to speak with LaShawn—someone I had an established working relationship with and trusted. I was casually told he is “no longer there,” with no explanation, no transition, and no concern for existing relationships. Let me be very clear: the ONLY reason I continued doing business with this location was because of LaShawn and Dalton. Their professionalism, consistency, and trust were the foundation of that relationship. Removing key staff without any effort to communicate with returning clients shows a complete lack of respect and accountability. This is a funeral home—an industry where trust, continuity, and transparency are non-negotiable. Instead, I was met with vague answers and indifference. Because of this, I now have to walk away and rebuild trust elsewhere, something no client should ever be forced to do. I was looking to preplan funeral services for my family and I going since we have all relocated to Georgia. Final warning: If you value reliability, clear communication, and not being blindsided during already sensitive situations, think twice before trusting this location with your business.”
