You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This place is horrible, I am so dissatisfied with the care and upkeep of the property and the lack of empathy towards the families who expect more when laying their loved ones to rest. The grounds is poorly maintained. In 2023 I called in advance to make sure the grass would be cut around the grave site and the head stone leveled. On that visit, upon arrival my family had to navigate through so much geese poop. Then to make matters worse, we couldn't find the grave. I went into the office and spoke with Jessica who happened to be the same person who took the original call when I made the request. Anyway I was furious and insisted on speaking with the manager and/or owner. She said he wasn't present, I asked can she provide me with a contact number and was told no. She advised that she will email him and deliver the message. I gave her my contact number. Jessica then contact a grounds person, who came and cleared a path to the grave site. When the Manager contacted me, he was not interested in my concerns, only the fact that he is not responsible for the contractors that is hired to care for the grounds. Now on this recent visit 8/10/25 I happened to be in the area (I live out of state) and upon arrival, again could not locate the grave site. Not only was my moms head stone was covered, several others was covered or buried, the cement path that that leads to her area was buried under grass. A little section of the cement path was visible. The office was locked and closed, I was unable to find the site. This is very unacceptable, and the sad thing is that I purchased a double plot, one for my mom and for myself. I am definitely not going to be buried here, I wish I would have followed my mind and buried my mother in Rosehill Cemetery. This memorial park is the absolute worse. Pictures are attached from this visit.”

“I went to go to visit my brothers, father, stepfather, grandmother and niece graves. I couldn’t find none of them. Their gravesites weren’t visible at all. The grounds were disgusting and no grounds people ( workers) were available. I spoke to the receptionist who pulled up a map from the computer to show me where they were located but I knew exactly where they were supposed to be. I had to put a work order to get their graves lifted. I gave them two weeks to get it together. I was so mortified and disgusted. Tears were in my eyes as I spoke to the lady in the office. I advise people who have members of their family to check on your family grave sites. It’s just a mess there all over the grounds. Even the geese feces was just all over the place as well. Geese were all over the place as well. Just so disappointing.”
