You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My mom passed feb 1st it was pretty swift process and the service was really beautiful. She was cremated so me and my family understood the process we didn't create any problems we waited and waited ... we started to call and text it was hard to even get a response and when we finally did get a response all it " OH HEY YEAH MOM'S ASHES HAS BEEN HERE "!! WOW first red flag. Secondly, we were constantly given dates and times on when we could pick her up and as we would get to these dates we got the run around ..oh she's not at this location, i'm not sure if her body is back yet, could you call and tell him nobody is over at the office just ALOT OF MISCOMMUNICATION !! They made sure to tell us we had to get their money to them so she could even have her service and we did just that. After getting the run around ALL WEEK here we are FINALLY ABLE TO PICK HER ASHES UP AFTER GOING FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T SURE BECAUSE NOBODY AT EITHER LOCATION IS ON ONE ACCORD ITS TERRIBLE they didn't use the urn we provided so now we are waiting ... moral of the story I learned they are money hungry and very mismanaged and I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND !!!!!!”

“Reverend Cochran is polite and professional. However, My Uncle body was not satisfactory. His lips look like a honk of Vaseline was on them and his jacket got stained. His body is filled out with plastic underneath his clothes, who does that? The pews in the service area are embarrassing, they are so soiled you need to cover them with something before you sit down. The ceiling desperately needs repaired. Reverend Cochran gave me the owners Mr Love number for complaints, don’t waste my time I called 5x and only get voicemail.”

“After My Mom passed away, I called a few funeral homes in Memphis. It was appalling as far as the high prices received for a simple direct burial (no embalming, transportation, & a casket basically). I was beginning to lose hope. I called Superior, as again, I was calling around for prices. We chose to go with Superior because they were affordable. And today I would recommend them. Because the gentleman who handled everything at Superior Funeral Home for us, was always available by phone, & he was professional. This Gentleman was also a Reverend (preacher); he is the one I paid the bill to, (& he drove my Mom in the funeral vehicle (hears), however he also led the graveside service for us (in which I did provide a thank you tip). But I just want to say thank you to Rev. Cochran & to Superior, because the casket was beautiful, and it was the only funeral home that was affordable. I am very very grateful I made the call to this funeral home, especially after the first ones I called seemed ridiculous. price-wise.”
