You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The funeral services were great and beautiful, save for the very end. There were some workers/usher that were chattering as they were burying my great grandmother. I had to ask them twice to stop talking, that was very rude and unprofessional. The rest of the funeral went well otherwise. 3.5/5”

“Our family has entrusted Noble and Kelsey with our funeral needs for generations. Unfortunately, due to the funeral home’s lack of preparedness, my sister/aunt, Brenda Gaither Avery’s, funeral, which she had thoughtfully and completely pre-planned herself. The funeral home failed to have its microphones charged in advance. As a result, more than half of the service took place without working audio, leaving much of the service inaudible to those in attendance. Staff members repeatedly disrupted the service by switching out microphones that also failed to work. After considerable disruption did an employee retrieve a charged microphone from his personal vehicle, which allowed audio for the final portion of the service. To make matters worse, the funeral home’s representative appeared to feign ignorance of the situation, even expressing frustration that one of his employees disclosed too me the true cause of the issue. This lack of accountability and transparency was troubling and deeply disappointing. To ensure that our family had a lasting record of the service, I had independently hired 2AM to live stream and upload Brenda’s service to YouTube. In 2022, I also had to hire a third-party audio visual person to live stream and Arnold George’s funeral due to the funeral home being short staffed and not having working relationships with third party companies that can accommodate their clients needs. The failure of Noble and Kelsey’s systems is permanently documented online. This is not only unacceptable, but it also highlights the funeral home’s unwillingness to invest in adequate technology to meet the most basic needs of grieving families. Over the years, I have observed a steady decline in Noble and Kelsey’s services, technology, and overall attention to facility aesthetics. Families who place their trust in their care deserve far better. At a minimum, we deserve a business that accepts accountability for mistakes and addresses them promptly and professionally. It has now been eight (8) months since my initial conversation with a staff member and the president of Noble and Kelsey regarding these failures. Despite assurances that the matter would be addressed, there has been no follow-up and no resolution. This lack of responsiveness is wholly unacceptable and has caused our family great disappointment at a time when we should have been able to focus solely on honoring and remembering our loved one.”

“Noble and Kelsey has been a staple in the Rowan County Community for years. The services they provide are second to none. The administration goes above and beyond the call of duty as does staff. My children and I were extremely pleased with how the services and attention to detail was handled. Definitely a 5 star organization.”
