You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I appreciate all they did for our family during a difficult time. They are closed on weekends but opened for us to accommodate family from out of town. They were also able to recommend a streaming vendor for us to stream for family that could not make services in person. Thanks to Dallas and Trish!!”

“If you are in the unfortunate position of having to plan a funeral, this is where you need to go to have the best experience in these circumstances. I was in Sedona, AZ when my husband died in front of me on vacation. Since I was in a different state, I had to work with two mortuaries. My dear friend and a Rabbi, who now resides in New Jersey, told me to use a Dignity Mortuary. She told me that McLeod Mortuary in Escondido had that designation. I gave the name to Greers Mortuary in Sedona so they knew who to coordinate transfer with in California. Dallas called me before I even returned from making the arrangements in Sedona. By the time that I got back to Escondido, Dallas and Trish had already started the process of coordinating the transfer and setting up burial coordination with Miramar National Cemetery. They made this "bad wedding" as beautiful and commemorative as they could. All staff that supported Dallas and Trish were amazing and caring on day of the actual services/funeral/burial. Brian was great and supportive as he drove me and my husband to Miramar. Dallas and Brian are retired military and sharing that information with me honored Val. I call it a "bad wedding" because you still have to pick food and catering options, coordinate pictures, create an obituary for website, have Trish and Dallas get a Pastor to lead the non-denominational service, make memory/prayer cards, make a music play list, etc etc. Then you have to stand there at the end of lovely service honoring your husband to receive and greet all these people that want to give you their sympathies. It was so tragically sad and mind numbing. All through this process, having Trish and Dallas with me and my son meant everything!! They truly make you feel like caring friends. I can't say enough about this mortuary. The staff are comforting and caring people. It is a lot of work to plan a funeral (it's a BAD wedding), you atleast want Dallas and Trish in your corner.”

“From our first call to the completion of the service for my step-dad, the team at McLeod was compassionate and professional. Ross coordinated the initial process and then we met with Ana for the memorial service and she supported us every step of the way. The office staff is extremely helpful as well. The pricing and everything it entailed was very transparent and easy to understand. The online access for photo's, the ability to have a memory video and chosen music playing, the facilities and set up, the catering were really superb. We were able to set up as we wished and the McLeod team helped facilitate everything. My family is so appreciative for making a difficult day as comfortable and beautiful as possible.”
