You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“An elegant and upscale funeral home, conveniently located across from Huck's. Lovely landscaping, with well maintained flower beds and thoughtfully planted trees--obsccuring Huck's. That it to say, it is very easily found by local landmarks and also thoughtfully gardened so that you quite quickly forget the busy area surrounding it. The lobby was elegant and spacious and ushers were ready to open doors and help assist guests with mobility issues. There is a very large vestibule area equipped with a large closet, that must be very useful in bad weather. Umbrellas by the door. There was not any common situation they did not seem to plan for. Tissue everywhere in very tasteful containers. We did have a very nice catered cold buffet of charcuterie along with hot meatballs, chicken, and bbq chicken. Cheese plate was very nice with a white cheese sauce. The most lovely, thick napkins any of us had ever seen with nice disposable plasticware. The decor was very elegant and old fashioned. Many small touches made it a place of beauty. Very luxe feeling drapery and every chandelier was worth a look. Staff was constantly in attendance and very respectful. This was a celebration of Life, services were not provided as far as a formal ceremony or service. A microphone was provided for speakers and the sound was excellent. The venue is primarily carpeted creating a quiet, peaceful environment. The space was large and capable of holding large numbers of people. Dining tables and chairs allowed for families and friends to sit togther, There was more formal seating in rows available and throughout the home were small nooks with plush chairs and couches to encourage conversation and comfort. While there was not a smoking area an ashtray was realistically placed by the door. A van outside the home being packed with buffet equipment was from Childer's. The overall experience was as good as it could be and it was a wonderful place to connect with friends and family. It was nice to be surrounded by so many beautiful things in a time of sorrow.”

“I found the staff to be extremely patient, caring , and understanding of the enormous grief our family was going through. I was glad I had met with them twice before in months past making it easier for me to make wise decisions. Everything was done with dignity and respect for my husband and my family. I am so thankful for their kindness to me.”

“I couldn't have realized how much it would mean to be heard and to have needs so well anticipated, with such thorough follow-through during my experience. It means a lot as it turns out, and I appreciate both the professionality and the consideration I received.”
