You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Words cannot express how grateful I am to and for the wonderful women of Fond Memories, but I will try. We had difficulty getting a hold of the vet in Uvalde who was supposed to take care of the cremation of our beloved family cat. We could never reach them, and when we finally did, we experienced the poorest customer service, to the point that it became distressing. I eventually asked them for the number of the establishment they use for cremation, and that is how I found Fond Memories, and I am so glad that I did. From the moment I called and Misty answered, she made everything as smooth as possible. She was kind, caring, and reassuring. I was having to drive from Dallas to Uvalde in a single day and would not be able to make the drive again to pick up our cat. This was my one and only chance, and Fond Memories made it happen. On our way back from Uvalde, we also had to pick up another cat who became sick during the car ride and ended up pooping in his carrier. My husband and I then drove three hours from Uvalde to New Braunfels with poop and a screaming cat in the car. When we arrived, the wonderful ladies there were so helpful and assisted us in every way possible. They provided Clorox wipes, gloves, towels, trash bags, Febreze, anything you could think of to help the situation. They made it happen without hesitation. What I appreciated most was their kindness. I felt comfortable knowing that our family cat was handled by people who genuinely love and care about animals and other people. The ladies of Fond Memories are people who show compassion and love during some of the saddest moments in other people’s lives. They are some of the most beautiful people I have encountered lately, and I will never forget the kindness they showed us, or the care they took in handling our family pet’s remains. They are not close to where I live, but if I had to choose, this would be my choice for who I would trust to take care of the remains of my beloved pet. It is not every day that people go above and beyond for the well-being of others. It is people like the women in this office who keep humanity, love, and kindness going. Thank you so much, ladies. “We had to recently put our little old lady down before Christmas. The urgent care animal clinic we went to uses this service. I had called them along with the clinic to check on our fur baby and they were very helpful and compassionate. When we got out little lady back we were very pleased with our products and would recommend them to anyone. Loved our urn with the little heart tag and her paw print. I’m so glad she is finally home with us. We miss her so much.”

“These folks showed up for me on one of the worst days of my life with just a few hours notice to transport my Thor and they had him ready on the very next day. They were courteous and stayed outside in their van while waiting for the vet to come and euthanize my 164# baby. Dr. Lisa Hull with Gentle Pet Passages came to the house and compassionately, lovingly, sent my Thor over Ranbow Bridge. She was unable to transtport because Thor was too big. Two strong men came and lovingly put Thor on the gurney and carried him to the van. They allowed me to hug on him and say my final goodbye. The lady at the office was great too. She got me the help I needed when no one else could manage my big boy. Thank you with all my heart. I highly recommend.”
