You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Edwards is truly the very best!! Don’t hesitate to choose them because they aren’t the typical funeral home business, they are a family doing it as a labor of love for our community!!! My dad passed in 2018, so I hesitated to write this review at first, but my motto in life is better late than never. From the beginning when my dad was escorted out of the house into the hands of Edwards, I remember the two gentlemen who are so kind and compassionate. It was like from then on I knew he was in great hands, the right hands. Everyone at Edwards was kind and compassionate, but Melissa takes the cake! She was the coordinator who worked with me and my mom. She treated me and took care of us like family, she felt like a sister to me! She didn’t work there to collect a paycheck, it was labor of love for her as with the rest of the Edwards family. They Forever impacted me and my mom’s life. They touched our hearts. They were the light in the darkness. Thank you again Melissa and Edwards, for your care and dedication to the community!! 💖💖🙏🙏”

“Where to start, I want to say that anyone who is searching for a place to care for their loved one after they pass, you have found it. Marcus & the whole staff at Edwards Memorial Funeral Home in Lakewood went above and beyond. From the day I called to have my mother picked up from the hospital to the meeting to make her arrangements, to her dressing day, to the day she came to the church for the family sharing portion of our family day in celebration of her life, to the day of her burial - they were caring and attentive to our needs and wants. Respected our wishes and made the whole process bare able and stress free. I will recommend them to whoever is looking for a place to care for their loved one and be there to answer your questions and help guide you along the whole process. Marcus is an amazing Funeral Director and the staff there are such amazing people & Lilu (service dog) was the cherry on top- she gave comfort when it was needed the most specially as we waited to do my mother’s dressing and viewing. Comforted my heart knowing we had people caring for my mom and us at the same time. Amazing atmosphere & wouldn’t choose anyone else.”

“Stop in and check these folks out if you wanna see why this place is getting high reviews. I came from out of town (WV) to Puyallup to help sort the details of my wife’s stepfather’s unexpected passing. Someone in his circle recommended this place because it was affordable. That could be seen to mean cheap (in service), a concern I did have until speaking on the phone with them. I called around to about 5 different funeral homes in the area, and while all were professional, they all seemed to have the same script and were not initially forthcoming with what their fees include, until I asked enough questions. These folks here explained exactly what was, and was not included in the various fees before I had to ask. I felt very confident working with this place after the brief call I had with them. My wife and I then met with Anna in person and went over what exactly we were looking for in terms of service and she was not only compassionate and professional, but very down to earth and genuine. Every step of the process was smooth and well communicated. To the employer: hang on to her and give her a raise! This was back in January 2025 (apologies for the late review). I cannot recall the office receptionist ‘s name (she’s got a dog that hangs out there), but she was great as well! Lastly, I ultimately went with this place based on how they carried themselves, not the price tag. As it turns out, the price was in fact the lowest, but the service and peace of mind was exceptional.”
