You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I am very thankful that I chose Perman funeral home. The care that they showed towards my mom was excellent. Mr. Perman and Ms. Jesse are easy to talk to and easy to work with. Thank you Ms. Jesse for your tremendous job. I truly appreciate you and how you and Mr. Perman assisted me and my family during this process. Take care. Eric”

“Frank and Jesse did a wonderful job during a difficult and emotional time. While we had done some preplanning, they made every step clear and easy to navigate throughout the process. When the funeral fell on a Saturday when many local schools were holding graduations, we were faced with a situation where most every club, restaurant, venue and caterer was booked. Frank worked tirelessly to find a venue and an awesome restaurant to cater the luncheon, and we could not have been happier. The viewing went smoothly, and the facility was perfect for our needs. We appreciated the room downstairs, where we were able to set up some refreshments and have a space where we could go down for a break and a quick snack. Jesse (Frank was at his own daughter's graduation on the day of the funeral, although he did stop by) did a beautiful job with the ceremony at the funeral home before we went to the church. There was a lot of coordination, as we had fire trucks and more to handle than with a typical. Everything was seamless. While I have planned many events in my day, it was comforting to allow the professionals at Perman's to take charge, knowing that everything would be handled in a competent and caring way, allowing us to focus on more important things.”
