You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“If you are planning with more than one person,do not go here.My wife and I ( parents of deceased)experienced the sudden death of our son.He was not married, but did have a partner. We will be honest this was a difficult situation.Initially Dan was very professional. This escalated to poor service. We ( parents of deceased)paid in full at time of planning for the full funeral. We did include my son's partner while we planned as a thoughtful gesture, but we're very clear that any changes needed to be ok'd and approved by us.In attempting to do this we received a phone call being yelled at! This was day before the funeral. We were unable to fully set upMost of the attention was given to his partner .Day of funeral we were told we could finish setting up,wrong time to do this and we left it as is but were unhappy. The large card box was put off to side with cheap cardboard box front and center. This lead to confusion and til this day, have no clue if we had cards addressed to our family as someone else ( not our family)bought the box and took with them. While setting up day before, another director was present. We discussed placement of easels and were told twice " this isn't a wedding, you don't need a receiving line".Minutes before service, last minute changes occured( not by us but we reluctantly agreed as we did not want to make a scene. This was when we were receiving condolences) Some of our family and friends had to stand. We requested more seats and a a few were provided but focus was on downloading added songs we had no idea what they were going to be. Going through a funeral is hard as it is,being made to feel you are not as important as someone else was disrespectful and unethical. There was no apology.”

“After my mom had passed away in Indianapolis, IN in 2021, Dan and Mike made the process of transporting her up to Mukwonago, WI for a memorial service. Dan and Mike also made everything easy for me to understand. They worked within my budget and helped me out by providing me with a reasonable payment schedule for the services rendered. I highly recommend Bruskiewitz Funeral Home.”

“I cannot say enough! Mike is so kind and compassionate. His attention to detail is amazing. I thought of something during the funeral that we didn't talk about and it had already been done! The funeral was so much more than I could have imagined. I felt my Mom was honored in such a beautiful way. If I had a "do over" there would be absolutely nothing I would change. i would absolutely recommend Bruskiewitz Funeral Home.”
