You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This business has lied to me for years about the status of my late husbands death certificates. For years Yvonne told me she "mailed" them. Only because I recently demanded proof and clarification did I discover not only did she LIE this business has had my death certificates for years! She just mailed them to me from 2019 and four are missing. No one has offered an explanation to where are they and what happened to the missing personal documents. Furthermore, she never disclosed my concerns to the owner. This is clearly an unprofessional business that has a habit of mishandling these important documents. Which leads me to believe there is more going on behind the scenes. I pray no one else has to experience such dishonesty while mourning a loved one. I wont allow this to cause me to spiral in grief. But, God knows the truth and Karma will always balance things out- and maybe it already has and I'm just being shown now all these years later. Such a disgrace to be in this type of business.”

““I can’t thank Marshel’s Wright-Donaldson Funeral Home enough for the compassion and professionalism they showed my family during such a difficult time. From the very first call, the staff were kind, patient, and attentive to every detail. They guided us gently through the planning process and made sure our loved one’s service was both beautiful and meaningful. The atmosphere was comforting, and everything was handled with dignity and care. It gave us peace of mind knowing that we were in such capable and compassionate hands. I highly recommend Marshel’s Wright- Donaldson Funeral Home to anyone seeking a funeral home that truly cares.””

“I am leaving this review not only to request immediate action but to warn others. My grandmother passed away in 2022, and although our family fully paid for services, we are still waiting—over two years later—for her death certificate. We have contacted the funeral home multiple times. Each time, we are given new excuses and false promises. Yvonne Smith has told us on more than one occasion that the certificate was sent or would be soon—but nothing has arrived. It’s clear that this location is disorganized, unresponsive, and completely unprofessional in handling something as sensitive as a death in the family. We need this document to take care of important family obligations and to find closure, yet we are still being ignored. This isn’t just frustrating—it’s deeply hurtful. I urge others to think carefully before trusting this funeral home with your loved one. If this is happening to us, who else is it happening to?”
