You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My diva , Penny had a seizure Sunday evening and did not come out of it and passed away. I called my vet and the on call suggested we take our sweet gal to I35 Market Vet and they would contact crematorian to pick her up. The vet clinic was amazing in taking our beloved Penny in for holding till Heavenly Paws could pick her up. I love HP portal to keep track of where Penny was in her finally journey. My daughter picked Penny"s ashes up from the vet clinic less than a week later. Thank you from our family to the HP staff for taking great care of my precious girl. I love the box that her ashes were placed in, as well as the framed of her paw print.”

“We recently used their cremation services after unexpectedly losing our sweet boy, Zee. During such a heartbreaking time, they were incredibly compassionate, patient, and understanding. This wasn’t our first experience with them — they also cared for our senior pitbull, Olive, when she passed — and both times we received exceptional service. You can truly tell they care not only for the pets entrusted to them, but for the families grieving them as well. The quality of everything we received was beautiful and handled with respect. I cannot recommend their services enough. They bring comfort on the hardest days.”

“I have never had to use this place until now, and I hope to God I'll never have to use them again. But if in the small chance that I do, I highly recommend this place to take care of your fur babies for you. This company and the people that work for them are extremely compassionate, professional, honest and fair. I dropped my baby off on 02/19 and I just got him back today 02/24. Every step of the process I was aware and informed via email and text message. As soon as he was shipped, I received a tracking number. My package that I received was very well packed and insured that nothing was damaged. I love the memorial package we received for him with not only his ashes, his fur and an ink print of his nose. As well as a certificate of his cremation. If I absolutely had to do this again, no questions asked Heavenly Paws is the way to go.Thank you so much Dimitri, (Apologies if I got it wrong or misspelled 😅) your wonderful customer service was highly appreciated.”
