You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Buyer Beware!!! My parents purchased an estate site over 20 years ago (~2002 for 6 figures) at Eternal Hills in Oceanside. At the time of purchase, we were promised that the site would forever be properly maintained and cared for. Sadly, this was a lie. Within just a few years, we were already back in the office several times, speaking with management about poor maintenance. With constantly complaining, some issues would be addressed. But the site has never been consistently cared for. Now, decades later, one of the tombstone’s lettering is fading, and the wrought iron gate and fencing are corroding. This is completely unacceptable. My parents deserve far better.”

“Patty is amazing! She has helped my parents and I make final arrangements and she went above and beyond! It is always hard to even have the conversation of choosing final arrangements, caskets and discussing costs but we know it needs to be done and she was perfect throughout the entire process. She comforted us as we learning the process, she explained everything in detail and was always communicating with us at all hours of the day. She is top tier and her customer service skills paired with her compassion and empathy just made the experience seamless! Patty Smith is your girl if you’re making final arrangements!”
