You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Tomblinson’s did a great job when we lost our Mom in January. As anyone can imagine it was the hardest thing to ever have to go through. They made the process extremely worry free. They were gracious, patient, and understanding. Hopefully I will not need to.. but I would definitely recommend and use them again in the future.”

“Before my mom got sick she didnt want anyone to have to deal with the stress that comes with burial arrangements so she went to Tomlinsons Funeral and talked to them about funeral arrangements for herself. My mom didn't evolve with the times and if she had to do something on a computer she got either my sister or myself to do it. So when she went to talk to them about her funeral arrangements and the costs, she should have taken me or my sister with her. Tomlinsons Funeral Home even admitted to my dad that they didn't explain to my mom that the agreement she was signing was a non guarantee agreement (meaning if costs go up, the price she paid would go up.) When we found out that she had cancer, my dad did what he had to do and got the money to pay off the agreement she had signed with Tomlinsons. When my mom passed, my dad went up to Tomlinsons to make sure the arrangements were in order and they let him know that over 1000 was still owed because the cost of the casket, digging the hole, etc had gone up and apologized that they didn't disclose to him about the non guarantee contract. They did agree to work with him but they never should've had my mom sign something without explaining exactly what she was signing or making sure that someone in her family understood it. What was supposed to be a time of mourning for her family turned into even more stress because I had to watch these people from Tomlinsons walk around knowing they took advantage of an elderly woman. I don't know how they can sleep at night knowing what they did.”

“The people at Tomblinson are truly wonderful to work with. We had my father’s service there and again recently my mother’s. We could not have asked for better service and people to work with.”
