You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Pruitt Funeral Home in The Heights provided our family with an absolutely exceptional experience during one of the most difficult times of our lives. They took such great care of my father-in-law he looked absolutely amazing, as if he were 30 years younger. The attention to detail and respect shown meant more to us than words can express. The Celebration of Life was beautifully arranged. It did not feel like a traditional funeral or memorial service; instead, it truly felt like a celebration, warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Everything was set up more like an elegant reception, with special touches throughout that made the day unforgettable for our family. I want to give a special shout-out to Ms. Davis, who went above and beyond for both my husband and me. She was compassionate, attentive, and always available even after hours. Anything we needed, she was right there, with a kind heart and reassuring presence. Ms. Davis, Ron, and Nikki worked seamlessly together to ensure every detail was handled with excellence. They made sure all of our needs were met and that the day was truly special and meaningful for our family. We are forever grateful to the entire team at Pruitt Funeral Home. Their professionalism, care, and dedication turned a moment of loss into a beautiful and dignified celebration of life. I highly recommend them to any family seeking genuine compassion and exceptional service.”

“It is with deep gratitude that I say thank you. My father’s homegoing service on August 16th was beautiful. The care and compassion shown by the staff at Pruitts in the Heights meant so much to me and my family. The way you interacted with our friends and family was thoughtful and kind. The setup of the memorial service was lovely, and we especially appreciated the special touches with the candelabra and clear pedestals. Honorable Mentions: The attendants were exceptional. A special thank you to Mr. Dante Johnson for his warm, friendly, and empathetic spirit. He went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and ensured our wishes for my father were honored. Those small touches made a big difference in our time of grief. All of the staff, along with the director, helped bring my father’s wishes to life. I highly recommend Pruitts in the Heights. Over the years, they have cared for numerous family members and friends with excellence. Special thanks to: Mrs. Nikki Jordan (Programs) Ms. Ahnyinah Davis (Director) Ms. Marjorie Ruffin (Attendant) Mr. Dante Johnson (Attendant) Mr. Von Davis (Owner)”

“Pruitt's in the Heights on North Main Street is to me by far the best place you can go to have your loved ones put away in style. The staff there is very kind, patient, willing to work with you so that you don't have to worry or have concerns with how your loved ones are prepared to be laid to rest. They literally take all your concerns and worries make it their own as you are greaving. All you have to do is share with them what you want for your loved ones, as they have options for you to choose on caskets, programs, flowers, etc. Tell them what you want and they will let you know what they have to offer. They took excellent care of my loved ones over the years and theirs no other place I'd rather go to have my loved ones taken care of. I literally don't have to worry or be concerned about anything. Tell them what you want and they will accommodate where they can. You are worry and concern free as you mourn your loved ones passing. I highly recommend Pruitts in the Heights. Oh and the chapel is so beautiful and elegant. ❤️🕊️🕊️🕊️”
