“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Deeply Disappointed – Unprofessional and Misleading Experience Donahue Funeral Home was hired to honor and handle the services of a deer friend and loved one, and the experience was nothing short of appalling. We had a beautiful, custom-designed flower arrangement created specifically for the service. Not only did they fail to bring it to the church, but when we asked about it, they lied—claiming the church only allows a certain number of flowers. When we sought clarification, they admitted that wasn’t true and instead said there was a “limit on flower transportation.” Is this something families are ever told? We spent money on something that never made it to the service—money that could have gone to charity. To make matters worse, the funeral director was confrontational and astonishingly unprofessional. In the middle of this sensitive moment, he said, “I know the deceased very well—I just bought his house.” How distasteful and inappropriate can you get? This experience was disrespectful, misleading, and completely unacceptable. If you value honesty, professionalism, and dignity for your loved one, look elsewhere. REPLY TO MR DONAHUES RESPONSE 12/11/25 Dear Mr Donahue Thank you for response. You are absolutely correct I did not hire the Donahue funeral home. I was merely calling to get clarification about a situation that involved your funeral home. Yesterday when we spoke, you NEVER mentioned anything about family directives or instructions. Not once- never. You were defensive and confrontational. If you spoke to me instead of sparring with me, I would have understood the situation and wouldn’t have posted. This matter has nothing to do with the family- it’s about a issue that arose and I simply wanted some answers. Additionally, is it a general practice of your funeral home to respond with such personal information and specifics? I certainly would not want my family’s private matters blasted on google. In my opinion, it lacks discretion and professionalism. I would expect better, especially at such a difficult time. You may want to advise your publicist or social media manager on this matter and for future references. Kris Rullo”

“We used Donohue for my mother's funeral and everything was beautifully done. The prayer cards, booklets, video, picture, and photo collage were lovely tributes to my mom. Mike was wonderful and sensitive during continued communications during a particularly stressful time. I can't recommend Donohue enough.”

“When faced with the unthinkable there is no place you’d rather go than Donahue Upper Darby and we cannot recommend them enough. They served our family with the most patience, grace, and genuine hearts through one of the toughest moments in our life. They didn’t miss a single thing in the process and their professionalism really showed in each and every touch whether big details or small. Every single person we communicated with along the way was great to work with and made it so much less daunting of a process when emotions are already spent. Special thanks to Matt and Mike who really went above and beyond for our family.”
