You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The staff that came to the home to pick up my loved one were very professional, timely, and kind. Becky reached out to me promptly to make an appointment to discuss arrangements. Becky and Lacey at the Central location are professional, compassionate, and really made the experience as pleasant as it can be. All aspects of the process are clearly outlined in a packet of information that they provide so you know exactly when and what to do. Customer service was exceptional when I had questions and very well priced. Definitely recommend.”

“If I could give this funeral home negative stars I would. Years ago my in-laws paid for their funeral with Baker Funeral Homes. My father-in-law passed away on Thursday evening at the Hopice House. The next day we tried and tried to get someone from the funeral home to call us. We left message after message. Nothing. We finally received a call after the Hospice House had to go to to bat for us. Basically they told us that they were busy and couldn't call and they wouldn't have time to talk details until Monday. We then found out that he had been taken to an annex which is a third party facility. So we were lied to. We have had him moved to a different facility who has bent over backwards for us. Do Not Use this funeral home. It has caused so much stress on my mother-in-law and our whole family.”

“If I could leave negative stars I would. This place is a joke and absolutely ridiculous. The heartache and turmoil these people have put my family through, my papa passed away on Thursday, my family called and called and called and the directors wouldn’t return our calls their answering service people are rude as hell. When the director finally called she told my family that she’s busy with other clients and it would take them over a month to take care of my papa to have his body cremated and to get it back to our family, the staff there terrible. We had a family friend go pick up my papas body to take to a different place to have his wishes met. That way my poor nana and our family doesn’t have to sit around waiting for those people to call or to take care of our papa. Don’t recommend or encourage or support this funeral home thy don’t care about your family they just care about their money”
