You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Phillip Peevey & staff was amazing as we celebrated my sister Freda Hutchison’s Celebration of life, they delivered the best service & slideshow to make my sisters service show who she was & how she will always be so special to us. Phillip has been in the funeral business since a young age working for Jack Niday whom was a tremendous family oriented pillar in the Southeast side of Houston. The care of using a family owned business really matters when you lose a loved one. He is a mini younger version of Jack Niday and a very honest man. I couldn’t imagine using anyone else, there are not many funeral homes left that have not been taken over by Dignity, at Peevey you will definitely be treated like family. Thank you Phillip for bringing in the best pastor & videographer to celebrate the life of my first born sister Freda Ann Hutchison whom I have loved since birth.”

“We recently contacted Peevey Funeral home for my dad’s arrangements and I couldn’t be more pleased with everything about the process. Phillip and his staff were so kind and treated our family like their own. They listened and accommodated us with everything we asked for and more. The rooms we used were so lovely and our visitors felt welcomed. We were able to bring items that meant so much to us for dad’s visitation and they helped us with space to display them. The staff set out all flowers that were delivered in a beautiful set up and display. They offer a kitchen area for refreshments to be served which was nice for our visitors, many who came from long distances. Lastly they helped us with all things for cremation and thank you cards as well. The entire process ran smoothly, during such a difficult time was such a relief. I would recommend using Peevey Funeral, Home and Cremation where you can feel like family. My dad is smiling down from heaven. 🙏❤️ Sincerely, The Wingo Family”

“I would like to thank and recommend the staff at Peevey Funeral. Mr. Peevey and his staff handled the final wishes of my mother with care, respect, and openness. He explained the process and answered all of my logistical questions. His staff helped with the funeral announcement in the Galveston Daily News. This is a locally owned company and he and his staff care about the community. Thank you again Mr. Peevey.”
