You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Chris, Christine, Sam and Bobby were all phenomenal when it came to planning, preparing and then executing my father’s wishes. They were caring and compassionate. Answered any and all questions we had. I never had any doubts that my father was well taken care of. In addition to everything they did for my dad, they have continued to invite my mom to their Valentine’s Day survivors luncheon. Thank you Browns, Bobby and Sam. I’m not sure I could have done it without you guys!”

“This funeral home is an attractive quaint and comfortable place. Chris was friendly and patient. Planning my mother's service was easy. My mother's memory card was personalized with a poem chosen by the family and her obituary was added to the back of the card. What a nice touch. Chris answered our questions. He assisted us with finding a pastor for the service. The service went well and Chris was very patient with our family slowly saying their good-byes at the end of the service. He also lent a hand assisting us with setting up personal photos and poems around the room. He made it look attractive. The video of my mother's life was done very well. The Christmas wreath that surrounded our mother's urn was beautiful. The pastor was compassionate and did a great job assisting us with the Celebration of Life. The service turned out beautiful. Thank you for all you do, The Flory Family”

“My family and I are so thankful that we were put in touch with Gednetz-Ruzek n Brown. Their team made our time of grief much more bearable. We were explained every step of their process, and returned phone calls promptly if any of us had further questions. I'm so glad they were available, we contacted them in the 11th hour, but their team fulfilled our needs promptly. Thanks again to everyone at the funeral home.”
