You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“During one of the most difficult seasons our family has ever faced, the care and compassion shown by this funeral home meant more to us than words can fully express. From the very beginning, they treated both our family and our loved one with dignity, tenderness, and deep respect. They took the time to truly listen—hearing our hearts, our needs, and what was most important to us as a family. Every detail was thoughtfully personalized, honoring our loved one’s life in a beautiful and meaningful way. The service itself was beautifully staged. Their attention to detail created a space that felt peaceful, loving, and intentional—allowing us to focus on remembering and celebrating our loved one without added stress. They also coordinated seamlessly with outside groups and vendors, lifting that burden completely from our shoulders during an already overwhelming time. What they created were not just services, but lasting memories—handled with care, professionalism, and genuine compassion. We are deeply grateful for the love and respect they showed our family and for the beautiful way they helped us honor our loved one’s life. Thank you for walking with us during such a tender time.”

“First of all the funeral director gets up in front of the funeral and starts telling people about her deaths and how she's been through so much, making this whole thing about her. So rude and disrespectful. Next she interrupted so many family members during the funeral to see if they were okay. I've never seen this before. She and her employees were walking in front and behind the casket during the whole service. I don't think this lady is all there. Then after the funeral was over she's yelling at people for exiting the wrong way. Hire a manage that knows how to do these because clearly you do not. You owe them a refund and an apology.”

“There are not enough stars to be given to Shannon and Malone chapel of peace. Pastor Felicia is the most wonderful person to work with during such a difficult time. She is truly the most compassionate, empathetic, honest and professional person I have ever known. She makes this process easier in every way while making sure you and your loved ones are treated like family. I cannot recommend them more during such a sensitive time in people's lives and knowing that your loved one is so gently cared for and in the best hands. Pastor Felicia knew her calling in life and she goes above and beyond for anyone and everyone making that unwavering phone call. I can't thank Pastor Felicia enough for her calming and reassuring energy she brings with her and giving my aunt the comfort and peace that she needed after loosing my uncle. Pastor Felicia is a true Godsend to have in the superior and surrounding community's.”
