You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My family had a wonderful experience with Lohman Funeral Home, with my mother’s passing, Tami and Tim were extremely supportive and helpful, not only with the funeral arrangements, but also with the “other” things that a funeral entails, getting a Deacon to come and say a few words and prayers, recommending a few things to snack on, and taking care of official forms that have to be filed, I couldn’t have asked for anything else during this time of bereavement. Thank you again Tami and Tim, Tom and Cecile Anderson”

“The staff at Lohman’s Funeral Home in Port Orange, Florida we’re extremely helpful from funeral preplanning guidance up until my stepfather was laid to rest. Timothy McPadden was very helpful in guiding my mom through the many steps of funeral planning as she began the process of making funeral arrangements for her ill husband months prior to his death. In our initial visit, Tim took all the time necessary to make my mother feel at ease and he helped her make all the final decisions necessary to assist her in preparing for the military funeral she had envisioned for her husband. Tim was very specific and detailed as he guided us through each step of the final arrangements and provided us with specific information about military burials. When my stepfather passed, we met the funeral director, Pamela Schwartz. Her warmth, empathy, and compassion were immediately evident in our initial meeting with her. After signing all the necessary paperwork, and reviewing/finalizing previous decisions made with Tim, Pam demonstrated so much patience as she worked with my 90 year old mother who often made decisions in her grief stricken state and called later to make a last minute change. She always treated mom with dignity, respect and demonstrated her understanding of the grieving process and the sadness of an elderly person married for a lifetime feels and how it can cloud a person’s judgment. Each time we called Pam, she contacted us shortly after, including an after hours call to verify some information. The day prior to the funeral service, we returned to set up a memorial table. Pam assisted us by providing everything we needed and demonstrated where we could set up some snack dishes. Water was already laid out and she advised us that coffee would be provided on the day of the service. On the day of the funeral service and burial, Pam was present. As we had a military service, we had to arrive to the cemetery on time so Pam assured that everyone was seated and that the Chaplain began the service on time. After the service she also provided words of comfort to those present. In addition to assuring that my step father had the complete military funeral honors in a military tribute, Pam accompanied us to the Cape Canaveral Cemetery, assured that my mother had all the information she needed from the staff, showed her the informative screen and it’s use and stayed with us for the complete service. I highly recommend Lohman’s funeral Home in Port Orange. They met and exceeded my expectations and understood the unique needs of my family.”

“When my wife passed away unexpectedly, we arranged her funeral with Lohman in Port Orange. I had investigated several local funeral homes, and concluded that Lohman was the best. After my first visit with Tami, I knew I was at the right place. She was most helpful, and explained all aspects of the funeral to me. After submitting the photographs of our incredible life together, she arranged a marvelous documentary presentation. Thanks to Tami's efforts, the service was beautiful, and much appreciated by our many friends and family who were in attendance. Reverend Kennedy, chosen by Tami, led an inspirational service and burial. Overall, Lohman did an excellent job, and we were extremely satisfied. -Spencer Lane”
