You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“In 2022 I brought my 92 year old mother to Trimble Funeral Home and met with Kyle Trimble. We were delighted to learn from him that her prepaid cremation that she purchased in Indiana could be transferred at no additional cost because it was in a trust and had appreciated in value. We went on to prepay for additional services. That makes it so helpful when a loved one passes. Fast forward to October 2025. My mother passed away at home just days before her 95th birthday. The hospice nurse came right away and called Trimble Funeral Home to pick her up. She died at 9:45 pm and Trimble Funeral Home was there and gone by midnight. They also set an appointment for the family to meet with Christy Trimble the next day. Christy was incredible to work with. She is very detail oriented. We were very involved with the planning, but she handled details such as the newspaper obituary, flowers, printing the obituary, and working with the caterer. Christy captured my mother’s spirit in her obituary, personalizing it with a quilt theme and the photos we provided. Emotions tend to run high with planning a funeral and our family was no different. Christy was so understanding and kind giving us privacy as we worked through a last minute date and venue change. I highly recommend having Trimble Funeral Home prepare the video if you plan to make one. Christy personalized it by adding quilts to the beginning of the video. We brought in many quilts that my mom made and draped them over the pews for her funeral service. I have attached a picture. Trimble Funeral Home is a family business that embraces and supports families during their grief, taking on so many details to remove as much of the burden away from you so that the funeral service is memorable and honors your loved one.”

“More than a decade later, we still felt like family and received the same exceptional care from Kyle Trimble and his team. During two of the most difficult seasons of our lives—guiding us through services for both my mom and my dad—Kyle showed extraordinary compassion, humility, and attention to detail. What makes this even more meaningful is that our parents’ funerals were 12 years apart, and yet he treated our family with the same level of care, respect, and thoughtfulness both times. We were never just another family or another service—he remembered, he listened, and he genuinely cared. Every step was handled with intention. Nothing felt rushed, overlooked, or transactional. Instead, he and his team went above and beyond to ensure that each service truly reflected who my parents were and honored the lives they lived. His calm presence, gentle guidance, and kindness made an overwhelming time feel manageable. What stood out most was his ability to balance professionalism with heart—helping us grieve while also creating a meaningful celebration of the people we loved most. We will always be deeply grateful for his support and the dignity with which he cared for our family. Thank you Kyle!”

“Unfortunately, this is the second time in three years we have had the need for a funeral home. Trimble was wonderful the first time , so there was no question that we used their services the second time. Kyle and his staff were wonderfully respectful on all aspects of the process. I cannot recommend them highly enough.”
