You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Simplicity Cremation was amazing when my Papa passed away. They made such a hard time feel a little easier with how kind and compassionate they were. Their customer service representative was so helpful and patient. Simplicity made one of the most difficult times in my life a little more bearable with their kindness, clarity, and true compassion. You can tell they genuinely care. I’m obviously not looking forward to needing their services again, but it’s comforting to know there’s a company I can trust wholeheartedly when the time comes. Could not recommend them more.”

“Worst decision I have made in years was choosing this place, it has been a nightmare at every step of the process. Between the lack of follow through, non-responsive customer service, inability to complete even the most basic tasks correctly, the disregard for the need for timelines, the excuses and the indignation of the staff; this company was plain awful. They would not commit to a time frame for getting the remains back to me so I had to cancel the service I had planned for a month out. Difficult and repetitive paperwork followed by the paperwork sitting around for weeks because staff didn't process it caused serious delays. Only thing that was fast was charging the credit card, that is when they did it correctly. They told me my card didn't work once and after a wild goose chase with the bank, turns out they ran it incorrectly. It made losing my father way more painstaking, they made me cry multiple times and refused to take any accountability for the issues they caused. Even when it was one of the many blatant mistakes. EVERY STEP of the process of dealing with them was inefficient, exhausting and unnecessarily difficult. The staff was condescending and when I called them out on things they clearly did wrong they tried to tell me it was my fault. Calls were not returned for days, I'm being unrealistic. Something that's supposed to take a month now will take 2 because they didn't process the paperwork for 2 weeks, I'm not their only family they work with. Yes they literally told me these things. Excuses and customer blaming. Go ANYWHERE ELSE. I'm looking into the process for filing formal complaints”

“Find a different company!! After picking up my grandmother, they did not call us back as promised. So, we called them for two days and their answer was, “we’ll call you back” but they never did! We did not receive any information as to the process and cost of the services. We’ve had enough and decided to go to a different company. A few days later, we finally get a call saying that we lacked paperwork for the services. How can we lack paperwork when our grandmother was already transferred to another funeral home? Apparently, this company was not even aware that my grandmother left their care already!! This company is a joke!!”
