You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Staff was extremely unprofessional and downright rude. If you care about your departed loved one, do not hire this funeral home! They had no compassion or empathy and were rude during discussions of arrangements. They also promised certain services that they did not deliver and were unresponsive to emails and phone calls. These people will make the process of putting a loved one to rest more traumatizing. Please avoid them!”

“Waited last minute just to figure out a dress wouldn’t fit. Also screwed up a certificate but wouldn’t take accountability for fixing it. I recommend avoiding this business.”

“Morgan Jones was one of the funeral homes i called when my mother passed and this was my first time ever planning a service. The receptionist who answered the phone had no compassion. I let that go and when I was transferred to someone else, a gentleman, I do not recall his name, there was no care, no compassion. You would of thought i called to order some food. I was so turned off by the lack of sincerity that I ended the call. I've heard great things about Morgan Jones and had recently attended a service they had done (which is why I called them), unfortunately that phone call was more than enough. I used another funeral home close by and they did an excellent job and were caring and compassionate from the moment the phone was answered.”
