You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot say enough good things about Vainieri Funeral Home. They are exemplary in every way. Last year when my mom passed away, her last wish was to have her remains donated to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School so while we did not have those for a service, the staff at Vainieri was able to accommodate us with a small and intimate service. They let me borrow foam core boards so that I could place pictures of my mom. This year, a week ago, sadly, I lost my dad and Vainieri was there to save the day, more so since we are in the midst of a pandemic. They were efficient and handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. Of all the personal family things I have had to deal with in the aftermath of my dad's death, dealing with Vainieri was the easiest of my tasks. I can't thank them enough!”

“Very spacious elegant Italian decor.. attended memorial services for a friend of the family. Very professional and attentive staff Like most funeral homes , once the room fills it gets over heated not here , they have the AC on well prepared , staying cool and comfortable”

“It was a funeral, so I don't know exactly how to rate this except they knew how many people were coming & they suggested a room that was too small which left standing room only & young ppl on the edge of chairs & couches but they did allow for the family to use their downstairs for food & beverages. I just felt awful for the family & I wish they didn't have to worry about space at such a trying time. This family has used this funeral home before & as we all know, it's expensive af to die in America but honestly I don't see why they weren't offered a larger space considering the crowd had babies as well as elderly ppl so it was definitely a misstep on the part of the F. Home. I have sadly been to, too many funeral homes & if I have to die in New Jersey in Hudson County then stick my dead body in McCagna Funeral Home. Both directors & their staff were wonderful (but that's their entire job is to help you through the worst time) but McCagna's is much more spacious & traditional but not as dated looking. The price is basically equal...sadly I know this but if you have to choose & i hope you don't, look around. Remember the staff at every place is going to be kind & caring but if you're looking for aesthetics then look around before giving lots & lots & lots of money to anyone. I guess that could be said of anything but picking where you want your "Person's " last place to be seen is, I think it's just a very personal preference but it shouldn't be harder & more expensive than it already is. Below is a place to add photos but seriously Google?!? No pics in funeral homes ever unless something fun starts happening there.”
