You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Although I was a little disappointed to learn that it would take 90 days to engrave the date of my Dad's passing on the existing headstone shared with my mother, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my additional request of re-leveling my grandmother's headstone was fulfilled even though it wasn't a Baer & Sons headstone. The team went over and beyond my expectations in managing this request with no additional charge. Thank you and I appreciate working with a small business.”

“I went into the office and sat down with Charlie for a headstone for my Dad. Honestly upon seeing the desk completely covered in papers , I should have left. However, I didn't. I could post pages of things that transpired but I need to keep it to a minimal but enough to complete a review. I went back and forth with Charlie on just trying to get a "quote" or a preview ruff draft as to what things will look like. Week after week I would hear nothing after he would assure to call me . I would call, leave messages and many times went into the office as he would not call me back. Each time there was a excuse. He misplaced things , they were behind, someone was sick , always a excuse. This went on for almost 3 months and we never even got to the point of finalizing the actual headstone ! I continued to tell him this was becoming a issue and uncalled for and I was going to take my business elsewhere . I spoke to his secretary I guess and she even said things were a mess around there . I finally asked him did he just not need my money or care ? He again promised the next week he would have a quote. Several more weeks went bye and nothing. I was ordering a black stone which I will say is 2 x the cost of a normal one so not like I was ordering some tiny not money making headstone. But regardless shouldn't matter !!! He finally got me a quote but things and details on the quote were wrong . I just stopped calling or going in and went somewhere else . I never got a call or email after that. I spent 3 months wasting on his services. Very very sad this business has obviously gone down hill and priority is not the clients . All I can say is go into the office and you will see how bad and confused this man is for yourself. Run away from.this place”

“My grandmother ordered a pretty simple flat headstone for my uncle that passed away a little over two years ago. She called several times and always got some kind of excuse every time like no help or just busy. Anyway end of last week she got a picture in the mail showing the stone in place. When I came by to look at it a day or two later I couldn't believe what I found. They put the stone in a completely different spot than where my uncle was buried. It wasn't even close to where it needed to be and also in between two other graves where it wasn't even supposed to be the anyone buried like the space thats supposed to be between the other graves it was only a few inches from the stones on either side of it. The temporary marker that the funeral home left was in clear view from where they put his stone even though it was about close to 50 feet from where they incorrectly put his. So now my 88 year old grandmother has to wait even longer to see her sons grave marked right. on top of the ungodly amount of time that she had already waited for it. Needles to say my family is extremely upset about it my mother and grandmother cried when they saw what they had done. And when she called and told them of there mistake they gave her a runaround and said that this happens a couple times a year and that they would fix it when they had the time which the way they seem to operate might be another two years before they do anything. Also they had the nerve to asked her if she would recommend them like we ever would. I'm not one that usually leaves reviews about places but this kind of stuff is just unacceptable and heartbreaking to us. If it was a way to put up zero stars on here that definitely would be what I would use for them. Hopefully my grandmother will be able to see her sons grave right soon and they should do alot better with there work and atleast get on it and fix it right away. I know my family will never use them again.”
