You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My mom passed away in October of 2024. Shortly afterwards we meet with, Brandi, to order her maker. Fast forward to September 2025. After waiting for months. We found out that Brandi never ordered my mom’s marker. The new manager at Sunset has only been there for 3 weeks, since Brandi was terminated. We now have to meet with the new manager next week to order her marker again, as the original paperwork has yet to be located! This type of stuff is why I have no faith in privately owned cemeteries. Once they have sold you a plot, they don’t give a crap about you any longer. I will get cremated and my son can do whatever he wants with my ashes! I hope I never run into Brandi again! I might have to teach her some respect!”

“So upsetting that this once beautiful place, to lay your loved ones to rest, has such poor up keep. My grandfather and grandmother have a beautiful head stone and vase and the lawn care, that keeps the grounds mowed, ran over this head stone leaving tire marks on it. Very disrespectful. Do better sunset memorial gardens!”

“My Dad Died a little over a year ago and his date of death is still not on his marker. I have made several calls and they told me it had been ordered but they hadn't received it. So finally I called the Marker company and they told me they had never received a request from Sunset. So I had to request it myself after 13 months. This is just one of the things we have dealt with we also had to repeatedly request for them to fix the marker because it was falling in to the grave that had washed out and settled that they had not put more dirt into. The management of this Cemetery has repeatedly miss managed and cared for the grounds. They are a disgraceful and careless company!”
