“10/10/25 To: Calvery Memorial ,New Park Cemetery Cc: Manager, Calvery Memorial on Semmes Subject: Formal complaint and demand for resolution Dear Calvery Memorial Management, I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding the handling of my father’s burial and headstone, and to demand a prompt resolution. Summary of facts - My father, Lawrence…., was buried at New Park Cemetery on [date]. The funeral services were arranged through Calvery Memorial on Semmes. - As part of a bundle package with the funeral home, we purchased a headstone for my father at a cost of approximately $500. At no time were we informed by Calvery Memorial or New Park Cemetery that all headstones must be ordered through the cemetery or that there are specific size restrictions that would prevent installation of our purchased monument. - After placing the headstone, cemetery staff informed us it must be removed unless we pay $700 to the cemetery or buy a headstone from the cemetery for $700. We were told Ms. Shelly Northern would “let it stay” only if we paid $700. - Cemetery workers have moved the headstone and walked on it. This is disrespectful to our family and to my father’s grave. - I was told other families have brought incorrectly sized headstones and were allowed to keep them, yet the cemetery now threatens removal of my father’s headstone. Both the funeral home and the cemetery have accepted payment for services and are refusing to accept responsibility for this miscommunication. Requested actions I request the following corrective actions be taken immediately: 1. Written confirmation within 14 days that New Park Cemetery will not remove my father’s headstone. 2. If the cemetery insists our headstone must be replaced due to size or policy, the cemetery (not our family) must pay for the replacement headstone and installation, or reimburse us the $500 we already spent. 3. A formal written apology from both New Park Cemetery and Calvery Memorial on Semmes for the failure to inform us of the cemetery’s policy, for the disrespectful conduct of cemetery staff, and for the subsequent distress caused. 4. A written explanation of New Park Cemetery’s headstone policy and why it was not disclosed to us by the funeral home, and an explanation of why enforcement appears inconsistent across families. 5. Assurance that staff who handled my father’s grave will be disciplined and required to follow respectful handling procedures going forward. If these corrective actions are not completed or if I do not receive written confirmation within 14 days of the date of this letter, I will pursue all available remedies, including complaints to the state cemetery regulatory board, the funeral licensing authority, the consumer protection agency, and filing a claim in small claims court. I will also share this experience publicly if necessary. I also wanted to share with the public that this funeral has forged my name and my brother’s name on documents to the cemetery and falsified records. They have not returned our phone calls and have not produced the correct documents. I would advise not to use this funeral home they are not honest . “This Funeral Home is not deserving of the one star only gave. Only gave to write this review. Strongly urge you to not use this funeral home. I do not recommend Calvery Memorial Funeral. After my father’s death, staff at this funeral home coordinated with New Park Cemetery and — without my or my brother’s authorization — signed burial paperwork using our names. Because of those signatures I was told I no longer had rights to my father’s plot. When I raised this with the funeral home, their responses were inconsistent and they denied responsibility for what happened. I reported the matter to the State of Tennessee and provided copies of the documents I believe were falsified. To date, I have not received confirmation that any corrective action has been taken. Because of my experience, I caution others to be very careful and to demand to see and keep originals of all documents before and after any arrangements are made. If you are considering this funeral home, ask for: - Copies of all paperwork and authorizations (keep originals or certified copies) - A detailed explanation of who will sign what and when - Clear written confirmation of burial plot ownership and rights I am sharing this to warn others and to urge the company and authorities to address this issue. 2 Corinthians 5:10 reminds us that we will all give an account for our actions. These documents were signed by the people involved in this scam with New Park and signed on New Park’s letter head.This is a warning to anyone considering using this Funeral Home and cemetery.The last picture is a screenshot of the communication with the Funeral Home and their lack of communication to inform me of the requirements of the New Park Cemetery . The other documents show where the Co owner forged my name and conspired with New Park Cemetery for Financial Gain. This one text started the entire thing.This was when my family and I realized the scam that Calvery Memorial Funeral Home and New Park Cemetery were in on using me and my family.”
