You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My parents and me met with Alan and chose a burial site over a year before they passed. Our meeting was very pleasant and he was not in a hurry, as choosing a perfect site was important to my Mom. I was so pleased with my interactions and care shown by Alan in the burial of my parents as well...which was only 8 weeks apart. The grounds seem very peaceful and maintained. He also guided me through customizing and ordering a headstone for my parents which will be special and personalized for them. I highly recommend Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens.”

“Our beloved mother died suddenly and unexpectedly. Our family had never planned a funeral before and we were overwhelmed with grief and so many decisions concerning our mother’s funeral but Alan and the associates at Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens made the process of burying our mother and designing her breathtaking headstone painless during our great time of bereavement. Alan was truly an angel!!! He was very knowledgeable, professional and always had a slightly witty joke to make me laugh when ever I seemed to lose my focus which I did a lot burying my mother, Sharon. Words alone cannot express how grateful and thankful my family is for Alan and the associates at Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens.”

“One of the most unkept sites around. You can tell they make the middle plots look all nice and clean but then neglect the ones further into the trees. I decorated my moms grave 2 years ago when she passed. Over the few weeks they decided to do a “clean up” and took all the bird feeders and decorations i put out and didn’t even bother to give a call or keep them so I can get them back. Oh and the “clean up” only insisted on those items not all the dirt and debris and sticks everywhere. You’d think in this line of business they’d have some compassion but clearly it’s gone after they get your money.”
