You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Kay’s-Ponger & Uselton provided an exceptional experience during a very difficult time. Their celebration of life services were handled with compassion, grace, and true attention to detail. Every step of the process was explained clearly, and their role as cremation specialists gave us complete peace of mind. The entire team was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel supported and cared for from the moment we walked in. Their professionalism, kindness, and respect meant more than words can say. I’m truly grateful for the care they provided to our family.”

“Our experience with Pet Passings was extremely disappointing. The paw print they gave us was completely wrong — it was downsized nearly 8× smaller than our pet’s actual print, and when we questioned it, Dee told us this was “normal” and even suggested we could “have it fixed at Staples.” We were also told that if the rest of the cremation was fine, we should “just be happy.” Our cat unexpectedly passed away and we were unable to get our own homemade prints. They reprinted it, but the second version was clearly cut off at the bottom and it was incredibly blurry. We originally thought maybe this was just how they did things, until our close friends had their dog, brownie, cremated at this establishment and received the actual paw print stamp along with a properly printed version. That’s when it really hit us how unacceptable our experience was. On top of all that, Dee’s attitude was incredibly rude and unprofessional throughout the entire process. Losing a pet is painful enough; dealing with this kind of treatment makes it so much worse. She told us that her dog just passed away so she understands how we feel and that she would be happy with the print that we received. She also told me that the paw prints are not meant for decoration or tattoos, when I told her that i wanted to frame the pawprint… Absolutely Insane. Imagine losing a pet and having an employee (Manager) of a funeral home tell you what you can and cannot do with their final mementos. Based on our experience, this is not a place I would trust with the care of a beloved pet or loved one. Go somewhere that is willing to care for your family. Here are the awful paw prints… You should be ashamed.”
