You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The hall is decent for a small gathering but Margarita, the one who is responsible in showing the hall is very unprofessional. We had multiple encounters with her including our love ones funerals and she acts the same way. She doesn’t respect people, everything with her is strictly business. While having a baby shower here she brought someone to show the hall, invading our privacy. Also while the party was still going on she started throwing chairs cleaning up and kicking my guest out the table to clean out the table without speaking to me, it was just an overall disaster by the end of the party.”

“I was looking at this place as a reception hall for my wedding. I was excited because it was under $1000 and it is supposedly under new management and will be remodeled but the management sucks. I have been trying to get ahold of the planner, her name is Margarita and keep getting her secretary. I have been calling everyday and her secretary said she has relayed my messages but still no call back. I tried calling today but the phone is disconnected now! I'm so upset i wasted so much of my time and how unprofessional Margarita was! This is not how you run a business and I am now grateful this happened because I'm sure it's a glimpse of how my wedding night would have been!”

“Looked online where to vote and it shows this place. I got there and it looked deserted but had a phone number to call. The lady that answered said she is their answering service and did not know if they have voting since they have no signs about it or anything. Considering it is on the official site for voting in ohio, one would think they would know of something this important. Now if I need to book a hall for something important to definitely look elsewhere since they have a clueless answering service. Imagine paying for something and booking it, then calling to confirm and talking to someone who knows nothing. Terribly unprofessional.”
