You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I wasn't going to post but I just can't stay quiet, plus my family and friends said people need to know! My mom passed away on December 21st 2023, 3 days before my birthday and 4 days before hers! May God rest her soul! Cynthia and her husband was suppose to call the cemetery to let them know about the service and they forgot to do it, so we had to have service but no burial until a few days later! All the ball bearers had to leave back out of town due to work, so we had no ball bearers. The 3 people that did show up had disabilities and shouldn't have pick up my mom casket and one did injure their back! Cynthia said we were suppose to call the cemetery and then she tried to blame the cemetery but the cemetery lady said it was Cynthia responsibility to call not hers or mines! Cynthia didn't apologize, they didn't try to refund any money for their mistake! So I had to relive this all over again, instead of trying to heal, I had to bury my mom 4 days later after the service! It was unbearable but I kept myself from doing some I know my mom wouldn't have wanting me to do because I'm telling you I wanted to set if off in their! They had no compassion and they knew my mom very well because all her sisters and brothers had their service through them, so they should have done better by my mom! What distracted them was them going on vacation and this is how they messed up because they told us they were going on vacation for Christmas holiday and they forgot to do their job! Your vacation is not as important as someone's funeral, you still have a job to do! If they would have just apologize I wouldn't be so upset! I am considering taking them to court!”

“The staff at Simon's Mortuary was amazing giving that they were very busy the last few weeks. This type of job is demanding and trying to please every family, takes a very special kind of gift to have. They did an amazing job with my mother Jeanette Young. What I loved most, was the privacy we recieved during our service. They were sensitive towards our needs. They set my mothers table up beautifully; just the way I wanted and more. I was oblivious to details( as this was my first time ever doing a funeral for a loved one) but, the wife( sorry I'm terrible with names) and Marcus took me under their wing and helped me through the process. I'm sorry some of you had bad experiences, but please remember they are doing the best they can to service our community. For example, their speaker did not work during moms service. Guess what? We came prepared with our own speaker to play my mothers songs. I ask my cousin to bring his JUST IN CASE. I'm not bashing them because of one or two mishaps. Just be prepared for any thing is my advice to the families. I definitely, recommend this funeral home. I pray that the staff continues to get strength through God to be of servant to others. May God bless you all. Kelly”

“Let me start off by thanking the owners and staff of Simons Mortuary. My grandmother Rosie L Jones looked like an angel which brought comfort to our family. Every request and concern we had was handled with care. We will forever be grateful at the amazing job the entire Simons Mortuary team did. Special thanks to Ms Cynthia who went above and beyond.
