The homegoing celebration was simply beautiful. Guests continued to express their admiration for how lovely and well-organized the service was, and when I later watched the video playback, I noticed even more of the thoughtful details that had escaped me in the moment. One of the most touching gestures was being given the opportunity to tuck my mother in for the final time—an act that meant the world to me. I coordinated this service from Virginia, with participants traveling from several states— a music producer from Michigan, a minister from Virginia, and a soloist from Cleveland. Despite my initial overwhelm, Mr. Calhoun encouraged me to simplify and trust the process. He suggested hosting the service in their newly renovated Grand Chapel, which proved to be the perfect venue. The space was stunning, and the large screen displaying my mother’s tribute video throughout the visitation and service added an elegant and heartfelt touch.
