You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Jeff and Brad, it's with great thanks and appreciation that I write this 10 star review. My dad (Retired Marine Sergeant Michael S Bell) was in your care from March 11th 2025 until his burial on March 25th 2025. I can't say enough good things. I will say my dad looked better, younger and at more peace then the day of his passing. I know family and friends also appreciated this. He was dressed in his Marine Dress Blues as his final wishes. At his passing, it was unexpected and sudden. God truly blessed us with you and your family taken care of my dad and hosting a beautiful service. Jeff you guys exceeded expectations. Your funeral home truly wishes to honor the loved ones and the family and friends. My only suggestion would be to others to USE HARRINGTON FLORAL! I chose to use Englewood Floral in Lawrence which did outstanding. May God continue to bless Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, families and generations to come until our Lord takes us all home! With Love, ~Charlie Bell”

“I have used this funeral home in the past, and I have been struggling with what to say here. I want to believe that the mistakes that have been made, are just that, mistakes. We are all human and I can accept a human mistake from time to time. However, I feel in this case, it has gone beyond simple human error and borderlines into negligence. My dear daddy, a Veteran in the United States Army, passed away October of 2023. His services were performed out of town a couple hours away from Kansas City. That part of his service was done beautifully. Our wishes were granted as far as having him buried in a simple linen cloth in a beautiful, plain wooden casket. That all seemed to go off without a hitch. It is what came afterwards that my family feels has been lies and negligence. My mother had them handle getting his slab put down over both his grave, and what will someday be my mother’s grave. THEN they were suppose to get/order his placard from the VA. DOZENS of phone calls later, we are now on January 15 2025 and my daddy STILL doesn’t have the base, NOR his VA placard. So so many times we called, no calls back. Desperate pleas for help has fallen on deaf ears. We have called the VA directly several times only to find out it was never sent in. Only yesterday 1-14-25 when I called the funeral home and threatened to make official complaints, only then did I get a call back. My demands still weren’t met, all I asked for at this point was to have them pull my dads file, have it ready for me to pick up. Instead, Jeff called and said he faxed the order 9-2024 and once before that and that he sent it again that day (1-14-25) that is not what I asked for. I asked for my dads file so WE can send it in. I no longer have faith in them, and will not be using them in the future. My family just needs closure, my dear daddy deserves his placard and we want to move on. We just want closure and I would love to think that they would too. Thank you for listening… Keaton family”

“I live in Florida and my grandpa passed away down here with me. Thankfully he set up an insurance policy with Alden Funeral Home years and years ago that covered everything in which we were going to transfer to Florida when the time came but the Florida funeral home wasn’t being cooperative. Brad stepped in and handled everything with the Florida funeral home and made it possible for me to have my grandpa transported back to be buried next to my grandma and father. He went above and beyond my expectations. They were amazing and I couldn’t of asked for a better experience. He made this difficult time easy.”
