You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We planned a funeral with Boles last June (2025). Heather Escamilla was amazing. She is a true professional. So sweet and at the same time so on top of things and such a hard worker behind the scenes! Someone in our family sent Boles the wrong folder of photos for the slideshow 🙄 and they only realized when we did a walk-through the day before. Heather was so so so kind to get it all fixed by the next day (we are SO sorry). Also, the copy we got of the slideshow was perfect. We ended our night watching it as a family and it was the perfect conclusion to the day of remembrance. We also brought someone of our loved one who passed’s favorite foods (individually packaged) for a table for family and friends, the day before, and Heather went ABOVE and BEYOND and surprised us the day of the funeral (24 hour notice, maybe) with printed out personalized bags for guests to put all of the snacks in to take home- even with a patriotic ribbon tied to each bag since he was a soldier. That just shows so much care. They also were able to find a bunch of picture frames we could use to hold printed papers as signage, it worked wonderfully. They were also so attuned to what was going on and how people were acting that as the funeral was coming to a close they had employees start filling bags with each of the snacks so people could quickly (and were more likely to) take them home with them. That worked out SO well as people were shorter on time and might have forgotten. We got a lot of compliments on this being the best funeral many family and friends had been to, with the program we did on our own, the snacks, personalized bags, and all of the other amazing help from Boles! Also, I do have to say, because it’s not irrelevant, that I believe they are *very* reasonably priced for the care we received! I’m sure I’m forgetting even more since it’s taken me so long to write this review- I do also remember Heather mentioning something to me about a decision she made to move something somewhere to get more people to sign the guest book? Something like that! Just another testament to how much careful thought she and Boles puts into things like placement based on the actions of people, this is a very intelligent organization! So impressed. You all really turned a stressful, sad experience into one that concluded with joy and peace. Our family thanks you very very much! (Photos are from the day before without the signs and bags)”

“This was my first experience in planning funeral arrangements from beginning to end and Heather, our funeral director was amazing! She was professional and compassionate. She built a trust worthy relationship with me by doing more listening than talking. She helped me customize arrangements that fit our personal situation. I am forever grateful for her assistance.”

“My father had been receiving Hospice Care in N. Carolina, and I live in NY. I needed a funeral home quickly, but I wasn’t familiar with any in NC. I contacted Boles Funeral Home. Ashley and Heather were so responsive and accommodating. In their communications with me. We drove to NC immediately upon hearing of my father’s passing. He was so well-cared for by Boles Funeral Home. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me! Heather was so caring, and compassionate. She made the whole process hassle-free. I couldn’t have imagined a better experience in my time of grief. I highly recommend Boles Funeral Home.”
